How to make an updated NAV/System works CD

Ever get annoyed with installing NAV just to fine the virus definitions are ages old? Are you a system builder/repairer and like to run virus scan from CD with out installing the application? Would you like to be able to install NAV with the latest definitions all ready included? If you answered yes to any of the above you may find this quite useful. This is a quick guide to show you how to make an updated Norton antivirus virus CD!

What you'll need:

CD burner,
A copy of Norton anti virus or Norton system works
The latest Virus definitions located here
http://securityresponse.symantec.com....download.html
A copy of WinRar from www.rarsoft.com installed

(I’m using Norton system works 2004 cd, but it should be simular for previous versions)

Take your CD and copy everything to a folder your HDD like so…

Now right click the intelligent updater. And choose extract to…folder name

Then select all the files, right click and select copy

Then go to the folder named VIRUSDEF

Right click and select paste and replace the existing files.
Also if there is a folder called Latest, then go in and do the same in there too.

Then you can just burn your CD with you favorite burning program, mark it and you’re done. But before you do that you might think of some other things you can also update.

For example there is an updated version of live update that you can get here*
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/englis...te/lusetup.exe

Just replace the lusetup.exe in the SUPPORT\LUPDATE folder with this one.

Also another thing you can do is quite similar with other updates like to the anti virus /or system works them self’s but it’s much harder to do. I can do it my self but it’s too hard to make an easy guide for doing it. That is with out seriously upsetting Symantec for distributing their files etc...

Hope you found this usefull.

EDIT:

* I have uploaded the current plublic beta for live update (2005) so you can use if you would like. To recive a link you must PM me....

I think it would better to use a better product, such as Kaspersky, NOD32, Avast or AntiVir. Many know Norton is not system-friendly.
