settings in bios

Getting confused on all the settings on pc for optimal performance. Am wanting to get best performance from my pc but having trouble with all the settings in bios and video card settings. heres what I have:
ATI all in wonder 9800 pro
pentium 4 3.06
xp pro w/sp
512 ram
intel soltek mainboard
Computer runs fine, just feel like something is holding it back, feels like it should perform a little better, especially during gaming. If someone could help me out, would greatly appreciate it. I am a newbie to the settings on a pc, but can navigate ok through, thanks for any suggestions
