Bad... Baddererrer... Spyware!

So, because I can I'd just like to express my concern toward spyware and how I'd like to drag the creator of these files with a rope tied to the back of my car while on the highway doing about 140 mph. Then I'll let you guys at him for awhile.

I just spent hours today trying to make my computer reasonable... chances are after I restart it'll completely destroy me again. Anywho, I spent most of the day doing battle with that VX2 BetterInternet infection. Boy, that was fun. It kept producing pop unders which would just say loading and then disappear and then I'd have new .exe files running and in my task manager... I'd like to give a big shout out to Internet Explorer and the great security as well. I mean... obviously having Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, as well as SpywareBlaster definitely isn't enough. I just felt the need to share my experience.

I hate that crap. Managed to force me into doing a rebuild last week.

As you mention, I especially hate the VX2 Betterinternet crap cos I never seem to be able to get rid of it.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears!

Get a copy of Hijackthis (Google it) and boot into safe mode under the afflicted account. Run Hijackthis, hit Scan and check off EVERYTHING that you don't know that you put on there. Hit Fix and you should be able to easily remove the remaining spyware files with a simple delete command or Ad-Aware and the like.

Happy computing.

Ok, I have some news. While looking to remove this spyware from my system, I stumbled across a very, very useful forum post that has been going on for a few months at the following address: http://www.tek-tips.com/gviewthread....760/qid/666236 Turns out one of the people made a program that wiill seek and destroy the files deep within your computer. I used it and so far I have had no traces of the spyware. Perhaps this should be looked into by more... advanced users. The current files he made can be found at the bottom of the post.

Oh yes, by the way I have used the following programs to try to rid myself:

Spybot S&D
Ad-aware
SpywareBlaster (Well prevent more like)
Spysweeper
HijackThis
CWShredder (well... figured why not)

I didn't have any luck with these programs. Figured I'd throw that in as some insight.

Consider the move to a different browser like firefox or mozilla.
Most spyware is ie related only.

I like Firefox way over Opera though... Looks better and works better.
