Automate V5

Do you do the same sequence everytime you start your PC?? Turn on the PC, Log in, Start your e-mail, turn on the audio player, browse to your favorite website....

Well with Automate just turn on your PC, log in and walk away and all the above will be done for you. This app has literaly TONS of options. I have it set at work so when I log in it automatically logs me into my e-mail prog and then starts my audio player and starts the music. It is a fun and cool prog to use. I even set it up so that when I hit alt+D it takes my browser right to Driver Heaven.

GUNNIX is on a distinguished road

www.gpure.tk is my site with the freeware I consider most useful.

From that list I definately recommend :
-Rampage to manage and free up ram (a must in win9x)
-F-Prot DOS , Antivirus , I love how small and useful it is. It's blazing fast
- Foxmail , I love the free mail program , it's very secure and easy to use
-Qtracker , to browse the gameservers and streaming music servers
-Mplayer , I love that Mediaplayer , it doesn't require any codecs to be installed. Works with most videofiles.
-Burnatonce
-.... I lov all those apps

The not freeware program that I really recommend as well is http://www.astonshell.com , it makes windows so much easier

SplashKiller - http://www.digitallis.co.uk/pc/SplashKiller/index.html
Quote:

SplashKiller lets you hide those splash screens that appear when an application is loading.

It saves you from having to:

1. Find a 'no splash screen' option (if one exists) in the application.
2. Modify your registry to turn off a splash screen.
3. Hack the application itself to remove the splash screen.

There may be some splash screens that SplashKiller doesn't hide, and there might possibly be some windows that aren't splash screens that SplashKiller will hide by accident. But, at the moment, SplashKiller is hiding all the splash screens on the authors PC (which is the main reason it was written).

Restore files which are deleted from the recycle bin or deleted while holding down the Shift key by mistake. Conversely, this program has another function that makes it almost impossible to restore all deleted files. You can use it after deletion of confidential documents, embarrassing files and so on.

You don't have to install it, so it doesn't leave any garbage in the PC.
(You can also run it from a floppy disk.)
Even if a file seems to be restored, there is no guarantee that the contents are correct.
After you run the program, please check the files.
You can probably restore it correctly if the drive has enough free space
and if it's just after deletion.
If you restore a folder, there is no guarantee that all files or folders which used to belong to the folder will be in it.
If you can't find them in it, please search and restore them one by one.
If you still can't find them, it's impossible to restore them.
It will be almost impossible to restore any deleted files if you run the complete deletion function.
To be exact, fragments of deleted files can be in last clusters of existing files or allocated and unwritten files.
(Note that this function is not suitable for TOP SECRET information.)
Even if you find the information of completely deleted files, their contents must be erased.
If you want to erase the information too, please run the function again.

When you use the restoration function, I don't think you will encounter any damage due to bugs, since the function doesn't write anything to physical sectors.
However, the complete deletion function replaces physical sectors.
Therefore, I confirmed that it worked without any problems by testing many times.
As there is a rare possibility of damage or loss, please run the function at your own risk.

FastCache v1.01 -
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/fc.htm
Quote:

As long as there's an Internet, everyone is going to want to do things faster. Browse the web, ping servers, download files, whatever. Every time you go to a new website, or a website you haven't been to in a day or so, your computer needs to locate the server again using DNS. Each DNS request can take anywhere from 50 milliseconds, to even a second or more, but most are in the 100 to 200 millisecond range. Want to save a couple hundred milliseconds Probably not, but what about a couple million or more That's what AnalogX FastCache is all about.
AnalogX FastCache is a caching DNS server that runs on your local machine and handles any DNS request that your computer makes, from Internet Explorer to your favorite FTP client. Once a query is made, FastCache will override the normal timeout for the item with one that you specify, so instead of saving a query for a couple of seconds, it can save it for a couple of days. Now every time you ask for it again while it's in the cache, it gives it to you instantly. You can read more about DNS, and how to configure your machine to run FastCache in this article at WebAttack.
Or...

ExtraDNS 3.0.4 - http://www.extratools.com/
** Not Free - Fully operational for 30 days
Quote:

What is ExtraDNS?

ExtraDNS accelerates your Internet connection by caching DNS requests.
Whenever you access a page on the world wide web, fetch your E-mail, request a file via FTP or
access any other resource on the Internet, your computer will have to find out the IP number that corresponds to the address of the site you want to access. Each request needs to be sent to your DNS server across your Internet link. Depending on the speed of your connection, other line activity and DNS server load it may take several seconds before a reply is being received. It is but after this reply that your application can actually start loading the requested data. When a web page is being loaded, DNS requests need to be send for each additional screen element that are part of the page (images, banners etc.).

What is ExtraDNS doing?
ExtraDNS intercepts DNS requests and stores replies in a fast indexed database. The next time
your system needs to resolve the same address, ExtraDNS instantly supplies the reply from its
database. There are no more delays when loading a Web page or accessing your mail server.
In addition, ExtraDNS overcomes the limitations of the windows operating system and can manage
up to 10 different name servers.

How does ExtraDNS work?

ExtraDNS tells your system to request DNS information from the ExtraDNS application rather
then sending requests out to the Internet.
When ExtraDNS receives a request two cases may happen:

1. The answer was found in the database

- ExtraDNS will send the requested information instantly to the application.

- Nevertheless the request will be send to the Internet DNS server.

- Once a reply is received, ExtraDNS will compare the answer with the information
in its database, and update any records if required.
This assures that the cache database is always up to date, and you will not receive
outdated information from the cache.

2. No matching entry is found in the database

- ExtraDNS will send the request to all available DNS servers that are configured.
ExtraDNS will inquire all servers simultaneously. This will result in a much faster
reply compared to the standard windows system where requests are send to the
next server only when the previous did not reply.

- Your application will receive the response from the first server to respond.

- ExtraDNS will add the information to its database.
For more information about the way ExtraDNS works, please also read the frequently asked
questions section on page 10 of this document.

Online port lookup or D/L for offline use. - http://lists.gpick.com/portlist/lookup.asp
Quote:
In addition to the online port lookup facility ... "Dave's Port Reference is available for download as a Windows HTML Help (.chm) file. The help file is available in two formats, double page, like the web site, and single page, with the lookup at the top of the port list. I prefer the two page format so that I can do a quick port lookup without having to wait for the huge port list to load. My friend Sven wanted a single page version, so I built him one and include it here. Take your pick or get them both and decide later."
Example..

Port Lookup: 666

Type: TCP
Keyword: doom
Description: doom Id Software
Trojans: Attack FTP, lpdw0rm, Shadow Phyre, ServU, Satans Back Door - SBD, NokNok, Cain & Abel, Back Construction, BLA trojan, th3r1pp3rz (= Therippers), BackConstruction

Type: UDP

Intrusion Analyser for ZoneAlarm/ZoneAlarmPRO and BlackICE Defender

VisualZone - http://www.visualizesoftware.com/

(D/L - http://visualize.phenominet.com/visu...e_download.htm)
Quote:
VisualZone does for ZoneAlarm and ZoneAlarm Pro what VisualICE does for BlackICE. Although truly one of the best software firewalls around, ZoneAlarm does an even worse job of gathering and displaying information about attacks than BlackICE.
Meet VisualZone: the end to all your questions! The information that is collected during the intrusion is complemented by all the information ZoneAlarm missed. And ZoneAlarm misses a lot! But don't worry, VisualZone finds all available information you're looking for.
VisualICE Report Utility - http://www.visualizesoftware.com/vis.../visualice.htm
Quote:
VisualICE Report Utility is an intrusion analysis tool, purpose built to be used with BlackICE Defender from Network ICE, without doubt one of the best intrusion detection systems around. But however great a product, there is always room for improvement. BlackICE does an absolute bang-up job of detecting intrusions and keeping hackers out. That's what it was built for and that's what it does, period. Yes, period! Because that's ALL it does. So what do you do if you would like to know more about what the hacker tried to do? Or who he is? Or where he's from? Or how to report him to the proper authorities?

NTREGOPT v1.1b (178 KB) - Registry Optimization for Windows NT/2000/XP
http://home.t-online.de/home/lars.hederer/erunt

Quote:
Originally from the program's readme.txt

Introduction
------------

Similar to Windows 9x/Me, the registry files in an NT-based system
can become fragmented over time, occupying more space on your hard
disk than necessary and decreasing overall performance. You should
use the NTREGOPT utility regularly, but especially after installing
or uninstalling a program, to minimize the size of the registry files
and optimize registry access.

The program works by recreating each registry hive "from scratch",
thus removing any slack space that may be left from previously
modified or deleted keys.

Note that the program does NOT change the contents of the registry in
any way, nor does it defrag the registry files "on-disk" (as the
PageDefrag program from SysInternals does). The optimization done by
NTREGOPT is simply compacting the registry hives to the minimum size
possible.

Version history
---------------

v1.1b
- NTREGOPT is now compatible with Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP
Service Pack 2
- Fixed a problem where the registry hives could not be optimized on
some systems

--------------------------

NirSoft ( http://nirsoft.cjb.net/ ) - freeware utilities - http://freehost14.websamba.com/nirsoft/utils/index.html

IconsExtract v1.30 (19 KB) - http://nirsoft.mirrorz.com/

Quote:
Description
The IconsExtract utility scans the files and folders on your computer, and extract the icons and cursors stored in EXE, DLL, OCX, CPL, and in other file types. You can save the extracted icons to ICO files (or CUR files for cursors), or copy the image of a single icon into the clipboard.

For hotfix updates, this utility also displays the list of files updated with these hotfixes. In addition, it allows you to instantly open the Web link in Microsoft Web site that provides more information about the selected update, uninstall an update, copy the update information to the clipboard, or save it to text/HTML/XML file.

TurnFlash v2.10 (6.6 KB) - http://nirsoft.mirrorz.com/

Quote:
Description
Many Web sites today use the Macromedia Flash component for creating animated ads. These ads consumes additional bandwidth and sometimes even slow down your computer. Unfortunately, Internet Explorer doesn't provide a simple way to disable the Flash component. Furthermore, if you refuse to install the Flash component, Internet Explorer will constantly ask you to install Flash in each time that you enter into a Web page that contains a Flash object. This utility allows you to easily disable and enable the Flash component in Internet Explorer browser (Version 5.00 and above). When you disable flash with this utility, all new windows in Internet Explorer will be opened without using the Flash component. The disabling of Flash doesn't affect the windows that are already opened. While the Flash Component is disabled, Internet Explorer will not ask you to download and install it. However, the disabling of the Flash component might cause a script error in some Web pages. Be aware that in Windows NT, 2000 and XP, this utility will not work if you don't have permission to write to the Registry keys of Internet Explorer.

System Specs

Cygwin:

http://www.cygwin.com/

Cygwin give Windows the ability to run GNU based applications.
Cygwin is really a full enviorment and I don't think I could live without it in Windows XP.

Best of all it is totally free.

I have over 1.3GB of GNU software loaded and running under WindowXP PRO right now.

* Want to learn C++, Perl or SED ? How about a full featured compiler (GNU) for free.
* Want to use or learn X-Windows but do not want to install Linux?
* Need to connect to another system using SSH?

Several of my test machines are running Linux with no keyboard or mouse. I connect to them using SSH and bring up 'X' though the secure connection. Real easy to do and best of all I have all the tools to do it and it did not cost a single dime.

Programming from the 'X' enviorment is very nice. Source code level debuggers are included such as DDD. Full X-Emacs and enhanced versions of VI.

Full BASH shell programming with or without 'X'.

You may run 'X' from seperate XTERM windows right from the Windows desktop or you can run full 'X' sessions including KDE and GNOME desktops (KDE and GNOME are not included with Cygwin so you have to download them as seperate items, twm is included howerver).

Most of the Linux enviorment is duplicated as much as possible. You can even do this:

$ cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : AuthenticAMD
type : primary processor
cpu family : 15
model : 4
model name : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+
stepping : 8
brand id : 0
cpu count : 0
apic id : 0
cpu MHz : 2002
fpu : yes
flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clfl mmx fxsr sse sse2

$ uptime
22:11:17 up 3 days, 3:41, 0 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

You can also download GNU source programs and recompile them under Cygwin.

Many project sources can be found on http://freshmeat.net/ and http://sourceforge.net/
But will all that has been already compiled for Cygwin you may not even need to compile the programs.

We will do one quick example.

http://freshmeat.net/projects/ifstat/

About:
ifstat is a tool to report network interface bandwith just like vmstat/iostat do for other system counters. It can monitor local interfaces by polling the kernel counters, or remote hosts' interfaces using SNMP.

Sounds like a cool program so lets download it.

Download ifstat-1.1.tar.gz
----------------------------------

Next go to Cygwin and un-tar the image.
----------------------------------------------------

$ tar zxf ifstat-1.1.tar.gz

Now lets go to the source files.
----------------------------------------

$ cd ifstat-1.1

Now lets configure the sources for our system. Almost every GNU project does it this way.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

$ ./configure
creating cache ./config.cache

No problems so lets compile it.
---------------------------------------

$ make
gcc -I. -g -O2 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -c ifstat.c -o ifstat.o
gcc -I. -g -O2 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -c drivers.c -o drivers.o
gcc -I. -g -O2 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -c data.c -o data.o
gcc ifstat.o drivers.o data.o -liphlpapi -o ifstat

Now we can install it.
---------------------------

$ make install
/usr/bin/install -c -d -m 755 /usr/local/bin
/usr/bin/install -c -s -m 755 ifstat /usr/local/bin/ifstat
/usr/bin/install -c -d -m 755 /usr/local/man/man1
/usr/bin/install -c -m 644 ifstat.1 /usr/local/man/man1/ifstat.1

Now we can find out all about our new utility by doing a man on the name.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

$ man ifstat

Lets try our new utility. Since this is a network status tool lets get some network activity going 1st.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well we have added one utility by compiling an open source project and running under WindowsXP PRO.
The neat thing is this same program will also run under Linux as well. You can create programs that will run under both OS's this way yourself.

I know, you want to do windows GUI programs. You can do that to.

I will create a simple program for you to see how easy this is.

$ cat hello.c
#include <windows.h>
int STDCALL
WinMain (HINSTANCE hInst, HINSTANCE hPrev, LPSTR lpCmd, int nShow)
{
MessageBox (NULL, "Hello, Windows!", "Hello", MB_OK);
return 0;
}

$ gcc hello.c -o hello

$ ./hello

We should see a hello dialog on the screen.

Oh, you can also Pascal and Fortran. There are also projects like CSharp for doing C# work and even .net is supported.

Hope that is enough information to give you an idea what Cygwin is about.
BTW: Cygwin is a RedHat project in case you wondered.

Microsoft Visual C++ Toolkit 2003

http://msdn.microsoft.com/visualc/vctoolkit2003/

* Microsoft C/C++ Optimizing Compiler and Linker. These are the same compiler and linker that ship with Visual Studio .NET 2003 Professional!
* C Runtime Library and the C++ Standard Library, including the Standard Template Library. These are the same static-link libraries included with Visual Studio.
* Microsoft .NET Framework Common Language Runtime. Visual C++ can optionally build applications that target the Common Language Runtime (CLR).
* Sample code. The toolkit includes four samples designed to showcase the powerful new features of the 2003 version, including new optimization capabilities, features to improve code-security and robustness, enhanced ISO C++ standards support, and the ability to use the .NET Framework library and target the CLR.

And best of all its free!
Yes you can use the latest Microsoft C compiler and tools to build .net programs.
No Visual Studio but full compiler and libs.

xp_emegencyutil.exe - http://www.dougknox.com/ (Windows XP Utilities)
Quote:
This small VB 6 utility will create a usable backup copy of Taskmgr.exe, MSConfig.exe and Regedit.EXE in a new folder, called C:\EmergencyUtils. The new copies will be named Taskmgr1.exe, MSConfig1.exe and Regedit.com.

These programs are extremely helpful, and usually necessary in helping to rid your computer of a viral infection. Many virus programs will intercept these programs, based on their original file name, and prevent them from running. The alternate copies will not encounter this problem. Simply navigate to the C:\EmergencyUtils folder and double click the file you need to run.

To use: Download the xp_emergencyutil.zip file and save it to your hard drive. Double-click the xp_emergencyutil.zip file and extract xp_emergencyutil.exe to your hard disk. To run the EXE just double click it, there is no installer. You will have the option of running the programs automatically, after the copies are created.

Operating Systems: Windows® XP and Windows® Server 2003 only. Requires VB 6 Runtime Libraries, included in Windows® XP.

supervise student computer control network clients

This classroom and computer lab software is perfect for teachers, instructors or administrators.

Monitoring

Demonstration
UserMonitor is brilliant for the lesson as well as trainings at the computer! Instructors can transfer their display screen to all pupil computers screens or blank student screens to demonstrate something.

Helping
You can write messages to any computers in the network or close unwanted programs.

Security Task Manager 1.6 - http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/index.html
(Single user license $29 )

SpyProtector
With the full version, you also receive this additional software for protecting your computer and Internet privacy:
prevents keyboard and mouse monitoring
and stops keylogger or other hacker tools
warns when registry is changed
and protects you from Trojans that surreptitiously add an autostart key

Executive Software Disckeeper Pro......

Best de-fragger I have EVER seen!!!It defrags the 4 HD's on my Alienware machine in about 45 scconds.The 1st time you defrag it will take 2-3 minutes or so.Then click the"Set it and Forget it" mode and forget about it.It will defrag whenever the screen saver kicks in,or any time of day you choose.....Sorry,I ment to put this in the :"Useful Utilities" column.

I don't know if this app was mentioned in this thread all ready but I use this small freeware app called Disk Cleaner. It basically automates cleaning certain folders or preset caches on your hard drive and is very usefull. You can write your own 'plug-ins' and customize what it cleans. Small and helpfull.

Astonshell.
Its probably the most robust desktop enhancer I came acroos. You can d/l one of the many themes other ppl created modify them as much as you want or create one of your own from scratch.

SphereXP
A small pr0g which turns your desktop into a virtual 3d sphere. Not really THAT useful but has a fun novelty value & think every1 should check it out atleast once.

Ati Tool. But im assuming every1 who has rad.s here use Omega drivers so ya guys should already have it

InstallWatch / InstallRite
http://www.epsilonsquared.com/

InstallWatch ( http://www.epsilonsquared.com/installwatch.htm )
records modifications made to your PC during the installation of software, hardware, or configuration changes.

InstallRite ( http://www.epsilonsquared.com/installrite.htm )
(which includes all the features of InstallWatch) provides "application cloning" as opposed to "disk cloning", simplifying software distribution.

I've found that Alchohol is really good for backin up CDs, however, I suggest Blind Write if you're new to the art of backing discs up as Alcohol can be a little technical at times.
Blind Write is also very powerful, however, and can be used in ways that even Stephen Hawking probably wouldn't even know about. I must say, I esp. like the pcouffin plugin that it comes with, much better than the standard Windows one anyday.

System Specs

Great Utilities

I was wondering what you guys consdier to be great/good/crappy software for the pc. I had Norton System Works, but this weekend it all died and errors galore...too many to get into now. The Symantec guys said it was a common problem with a complicated solution.

Anyway, I thought Speeddisk, Windoctor (fixes common Windows errors) and one button checkup were all wonderful.

Do you gentlemen know of any programs like this....I am personally boycotting norton from here on out. So any other similar products which have similar programs like the above mentioned would be greatly appreciated.

By the way I switched to McAphe Antivirus.

TweakXP is great for tweakign your windows settings, and as far as virus protection, I use a firewall, not an AV program(I use blackice)

for spyware, I use Spybot 1.3, Spywareblaster 3.2, and Adaware SE
