Well, the lastest version of Registry mechanic ( v. 3. 0. 3.) is very good!
Nowadays, you can even do a "Deepscan" with the unregistred software.
It even helped a friend of mine recover his "lost" CD drive.

I scanned today and had 97 faults according to R.M. This even though I scan almost every day.

As for Firewall, you could try the free Zonealarm or Outpost.

Just found a renaming utility here

called 1-4a Rename, and it allows you to batch change file names in a variety of ways and shows you what the output will be on all files before you do it. I removed a leading # and _ from over 400 MP3's in about 30 seconds. Seems to work very well.

About that Shutdown Machine app I posted earlier in this thread, it seems that the link to the download I posted at download.com actually results in the download of a corrupted Shutdown Machine more often than not. So I thought I'd just post this for all the memebers that would like to shut their machines down after a preset period of time, but don't know how to.

Click "Start" to bring the windows start menu up and then click on "Run". In the Run text box type the following

shutdown -s -f -t 00

Where 00 stands for the amount of time to shutdown in seconds, and can be set to anything from 00 (which will force the PC to shutdown immeadiately) to 99999 or whatever, just calculate how long you'd like it to take before it shuts down keeping in mind it's timed in seconds. Be sure to put a space between all parameters, or else it won't work, it'll just flash a DOS window quickly on and off.

Be advised that the shutdown -will- be forced so don't be too surprised if it interupts an important procedure (eg scandisking or defragmenting or burning or something) if you miscalculate the time and spoils what you wanted to happen. So preferably make sure you've done the exercise before so you can estimate well to avoid messing up your windows installation, giving your hard disk bad sectors, etc.

Oh yeah, and one more thing, if you wanna stop/cancel the shutdown, then just type

shutdown -a

and it won't shutdown.

I'd like to recommend Ad Muncher, a very configurable adblocker. I've tried a lot of methods for blocking ads and this is the one I'd recommend. It's not free but no such alternative comes close in features, so I think it's worth the price of $25. 30 days of full featured trial and works with any browser.

Unlocker is good but doesn't always work. I had some files in a folder that became corrupted when restoring from an external backup HDD. I couldn't delete the folder or files at all. I am the admininstrator for my PC but I was unable to access the folder!!! The only way was to go boot into Linux, change the permissions and then delete.

On the whole though - Unlocker is an extremely useful little tool

I don't have a link, just search for it, don't think he has a website, but the program "dr delete by jdong" is a very good program to delete files that you can't delete them in other ways. Use it for a long time now and at worse it will require a reboot, but always deletes the file. Always.
