What is Audio Codec Priority?

I was helping someone getting their ventrilo working, they were missing the GSM 6.10 Codec that we use, and when i was surfing through my PC i was looking at my audio codecs and noticed I could change the priority for individual codecs. Does anyone know what this officially does if anything?

thanks

System Specs

moved to Software, by the man in the shadows

My guess would be that if you had more than one codec that can handle a certain format, the top priority codec is the one that would handle it.

sounds right.

it probably changes the cases on the codec switch, if you know anything about programming. case 0 will take effect if it applies/is present, if not, it will fall to case 1, and so on and so forth

md5 has a spectacular aura aboutmd5 has a spectacular aura about

there are codecs which can encode/decode many formats

If for example you have 2 codecs that can decode an mp3 and you don't specify which one you want to do the job, the codec with the highest priority will be chosen first
