Default Post Media Player 9 problem

Whenever I try playing avi files in MP9 I get the error "encountered a problem and needs to close" with these details

AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.2800 ModName: mmswitch.ax
ModVer: 0.9.4.0 Offset: 00004e86

I have tried various things like diff vid drivers, nimo codec pack, v9.2848 media player, reinstalling SP1 but nothing works.

Any ideas please.

Default Post update!

Update it, download wmp9 rc2, maybe this can fix it: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo.../mpsetupXP.exe

rc2 is build 2926 and works perfect on my pc.

I beleive WMP 9 final is out....Maybe upgrading may fix this problem?

Then again, it could be a system fault...

What operating system are you using?
From your reading, about SP1, im assuming its XP?

problem with nimopack and wmp9

I had the same problem when I first installed wmp9. The problem for me was all the different codecs that was installed on my computer. First I uninstalled ALL codecs (end cleaned the registry of all remnants). Now I could at least view some movies. Then I installed the complete NimoPack (5 build 8). Now the problem was back.
To make a long story short... don't install the complete NimoPack since some of the codecs don't work very well together and some of them doesn't work at all with wmp9 (yet, anyway). I installed DivX5 (show & audio), AC3m, DvobSub and XviD. No probs. If you (like me) needs Ogg (superior sound...) use the latest stand-alone installer (0.995 at the moment) instead.
Hope this can be of help for someone...See ya!

Obviously that mmswitch.ax codec is incompatible with your media player. I suggest you unregister the codec and delete it (and seek an alternate working codec)

Steps (assuming you're using a Windows on your C:\ and its folder name is Windows)

1) Start > Run > regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\System32\mmswitch.ax
2) Delete the file at your convienence.
