MS antispyware beta 1

Whats the deal with this program. Its not in the startup menu, its not in the msconfig startup options but every time i reboot there is the MS spyware logo loading and its in the running processes. So how do i disable it from the start up menu.......

btw it found 2 entries that spybot, adaware and spyware blaster didnt...

and also does MS spy on you with this app?

the program autoloading (autoload when Windows starts) entry is..

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
"gcasServ"="full path of the gcasServ.exe (Microsoft AntiSpyware Service)"

Run regedit.exe, locate the registry key, export the key for your backup
then remove the value name "gcasServ"

-Or-

you can also use reg.exe (Console Registry Tool for Windows) to export and modify your registry...

batch files or command lines and parameter examples...

reg_export.cmd
Code:
@echo off
cls
REG EXPORT HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run run_backup.reg
pause >nul
reg_delete.cmd
Code:
@echo off
cls
REG DELETE HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /v gcasServ
pause >nul
---

you can also configure which programs run when your Windows starts with a small utility like "Startup Control Panel" (mlin.net) or "Autoruns" (sysinternals.com),
check it out.

wow... such an extensive awnser....

i checked in that folder and ther is no such value as "gcasServ". I dont know if that means that it doesnt exist or if MS placed it somewhere else. There is two values that i need but nothing else.

Should i try and run the reg.exe tool even thought the value isnt there.

the above instruction was to export the registry key first, if you don't see the value name "gcasServ" then you just can't remove it.

according to the program's installer package that's supposed to be the registry entry. because of the computer program is protected by copyright and etc i don't want to post the portion of this info.
if you don't have the mentioned registry entry then i have no idea how this program run on Windows starts, sorry.

Its an alright program. Im sure with time it will get better, but also be targeted in some shape or form, much like the rest of MS software

i dont like it cause it detects every little thing you do, and the pop ups are annoying as hell... every ten seconds id get one for legit stuff i was installing, and with that disabled theres really no use for it. SPyot/adaware and spyware blaser is all you really need.

PangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nice

i just installed the program and updated its databases... it didn't find anything on this system. a friend who uses FlashGet download manager told me that this spyware scanner finds a whole lot of spy registries (Md5 mentioned about this before), but he likes the FlashGet so he tried removing it and re-install one of an older version and that did it, the scanner no longer detects it as spyware.
anyway, configured its startup options in its UI won't stop it from running after reboot, but the registry hacks as i mentioned above did it, i'll remove/re-install it later and see why the startup options didn't work?

just use the manual spyware scan, no real-time, no script-blocking, no startup, no autoupdater, no etc. and i think, it's a good program, fast scan/update...
and i'll keep it. it would be best if it's free in final version.

Thumbs Up!

I have been using this program for several months now and it has worked flawlessly. It is a simple program that runs in the background and keeps spyware/mallware from entering your system. I also use adaware but since I have installed MS antispyware adaware hasn't found anything of sugnificance. I would say it is a awesome program. Yes it does show when you are installing something else that there has been reg changes and such but as with a anti virus you should also shut MS down before you install anything. Excellent program.

gcasServ is under startup in msconfig. at least on my comp.
i like d it at 1st but not so sure anymore. i ran the deep scan the other day, it ddi not find anthing. i ran adaware right after & it found 27 items, 15 of them 'criticals'.
i'll give it another couple of weeks, but unless it can do a better job than that i do not see the point.
