Defrag - mp3?

I have a creative muvo 2 4gb mp3 player and like...I can use windows disk defrag for it but when i try to use perfectdisk it cant read it. The filesystem on the mp3 player is FAT32. Oh yeah, when I defrag it. I had to take out some music so it would have 15% free space, then after I put the music back in and tried to defrag but nothing really happened, so is that any bad? thanks :]

taken from PerfectDisk 7 User Guide...
PerfectDisk 7.
Minimum System Requirements - Drive Support:
PerfectDisk will work with drives that are formatted FAT16, FAT32 or NTFS. PerfectDisk will defragment removable drives only if the external drive tells Windows that it is a fixed hard drive. This is common with USB/Firewire attached external drives. Please note that removable drives may use hardware or drivers that may not be fully compatible with Windows. Customers should confirm that their hardware is on the Windows Hardware Compability List. Care should be taken to ensure that removable drives are not accidently ejected or unplugged while being defragmented. Most USB drive vendors provide drivers specific to their drives and recommend that these drivers be used instead of the generic Windows USB Mass storage driver. Microsoft also recommends in many cases that Write Caching be disabled for external drives.

taken from Windows XP - Help and Support Center...
Defrag.
A volume must have at least 15% free space for Disk Defragmenter to completely and adequately defragment it. Disk Defragmenter uses this space as a sorting area for file fragments. If a volume has less than 15% free space, Disk Defragmenter will only partially defragment it.

i dont think perfectdisk supports removable media such as flash drives or anything through usb

o&o defrag however does

*note* fragmentation does not have much effect at all on flash drives as they have no moving parts

i'd say the drive space that has been set for disk used should be okay by PD to defrag it. not sure about the rest of space on the drives.

15GB ipod using firewire and an USB ipod Shuffle.

Perfectdisk cannot recognise these 2 removable storages, and therefore it cannot work on them.
it may work but only after all the requirments which is mentioned above are met.

as you've already known that the Windows Disk Defragmenter will be able to work on the drive that you are using and without having to install an extra driver. you just have to leave some free spaces on the disk drive so the defrag program can do a better job on it.
i personally never defrag these drives but usually format them. and i'd say you probably won't have to defrag the drive either. but if you find any more info about this please post.
