strange, works fine for me. What version are you using? If you are using 8.5, try the tech preview of 9.0, that may work. Other than that, maybe a reinstall is in order.

try the opera 9 preview 2. This has fixed most of the issues I had with gmail, including the issues you've described above

I'm surprised you thing 9.0 is slower. On my comp at home, it seems way fast, I am also getting way fewer crashes. i can't wait for the official release.

As for google, they are using code specifically catered to the majority of users identifying as Internet explorer users, there are specific aspects of the code which do not work correctly with opera, however opera are working around this by coding "workarounds" as google arent bothering their ass. In time im hoping them and other sites get with the net standards agenda and start fixing possible issues and breaches of the guidelines before they happen. |

GMail + Opera 9 is alright for me. (Progressively gotten better with each release of Opera and G-mail update) Then again I use Outlook 2003 for my GMail via POP3, so I haven't encountered a lot of 'quirks' or other problems.
I don't believe G-Mail's compatibility problems is due to 'sloppy coding'. I believe it's due to immature coding. (They're still labeling it Beta). They're trying to achieve a lot which isn't easily displayed by browsers who are hardcore about the standards.

I think gmail is vastly overrated, the interface is a total mess IMO. the major selling point is the size of the mailbox, but ive seen many better web based interface email systems. And if other, less well known companies can do it without the major financial backing of google, then I class it as sloppy. They should have stuck to the standards from the start .....
on a lighter note, something a little amusing https://blogs.msdn.com/leadingtrump/...21/472583.aspx |

I use it because of it's sufficient spam filter. I have had 2-5 pieces of spam slip through G-Mail's filters since I started using it (over a year). Yes, there are countless other providers which have better interfaces, but I don't use the Web-mail function as much as the POP3 capability. When I do use the web-mail interface it's sufficient. I enjoy their convo feature, which I doubt is original, and the speed of the search.
The only other web-mail I use is ICQMail which is ok. I've always stayed away from the major ones like Yahoo! and Hotmail due to the inconvenience of wading through spam. P.S - That Blog nailed G-mail's faults quite well, especially during the September 2005 time frame. I experienced some delayed e-mails (by hours, but not days), but that hasn't happened for months now.

I use gmail because it supports pop3, works nicely, and I don't expect it to go down anytime soon. Pop3 support being the main thing, as plenty of other providers give the rest of the service I want.
