|AQUAMARK 3 PREVIEW & PERFORMANCE COMPARISON|
Zardon: After Veridian3 sent me this article we got to chatting about the incredible leaps in performance that the new Detonator 51.75 set are bringing to aquamark3. Stuart sent me alot of the original targa saved image files from Aquamark3 and I decided to have a closer look over them in Adobe photoshop 7. I have decided to put this little section up near the end of Veridians article to depict quite easily the difference in the IQ between some of these sets, specifically the forthcoming Detonator 51.75.
If you want to further study the images i've made available the raw TARGA image files in RAR archives so if you wish to download these images you can, please be aware those on slower lines will probably not want to bother as it may take quite a considerable amount of time for you to get them. All of these are in and around 20 megabytes each. They are taken at 500 frame intervals as the benchmark runs.
If you download any of the above archives and decompress, then open into Photoshop you will be looking at a raw targa image grab from Aquamark3, for the purposes of looking at the images, these are quite dark, so its better if you lighten them up. The image below is a raw conversion from a targa, as you see quite dark.....
Taking this image into Photoshop you can either alter curves, levels, but for the purposes of this article and to let you all try it at home with relative ease, load photoshop, go into image/adjustments/brightness/contrast, then either move the slider to the right until it says 25 in both, or key in +25 in both. The image below has the correction applied.
I have also put together a little flash animation which weighs in at just over 1 megabyte below, this is a section of the above image around the spacecraft which will give you quite a clear indication of the differences between the images and specifically the Detonator 51.75.
This flash animation is over 1 megabyte, those on slower lines please be patient as it loads.
Now, im sure most of you have read Gabes recent comments regarding the detonator 51.75s, and Nvidia's offical response but I really do have to say, having seen this first hand it confirms to both myself and Veridian that the new detonators are far from a high quality IQ set. Alot of negative publicity is currently surrounding Nvidia, and here at driverheaven we like to remain as impartial and open minded as we possibly can, but after reading all the articles recently such as here coming from good sources and experiencing this ourselves first hand, I can no longer recommend an nvidia card to anyone. Ill be speaking with nvidia about this over the coming days and if I can make anything public I will.
