asio / logic (massive) timing delay

hi:

so, generally, i use kx drivers to record multitrack into logic, with 3 or 4 independant stereo inputs, which works great! since i'm only using the computer to record stuff, i don't really care so much about latency, which i usually keep at 21.33 ms, just to keep nice and stable.

however, whenever i try to record, say, vocals on top of a song that i've previosly recorded,
it SOUNDS fine when monitoring during the recording, but when i play everything back, the vocals are out of sync with the rest of the track....but REALLY out of sync. to work around it, i scratched my head, then delayed the vocals by the magic number of 1.66 seconds. this delay seemed to be the same no matter what value i used for the latency. why would the original recording be 1.66 seconds BEHIND the newly recorded track? are there some settings in logic or in the kxdrivers that i'm missing here? buffer size? should i start messing around with the asio buffer delay in logic? has anybody encountered this kind of a problem?

ps. i am running a P3 866 128mb ram with three sb lives and 2 live drives (though the multiple card thing can't really be the problem, i don't think, since one card is a 'master' which the otehr cards run into), running win2k...

forgot to mention... this is using logic 5.01

in general, you should not tweak kX buffer settings and leave them in the 'default' state
the problem might be related to Logic and / or your DirectX installation

it's always nice when a problem can be solved with one little box being checked/unchecked. than again it also makes me feel like an idiot. oh well. for anyone interested, the button to check is "plug in delay compensation", but i'll leave you on your own to find it. *grin*
