What's the BUZZ with kx ASIO & CHS 6.2.2 ?
<<< this request for help was also sent to cakewalk support via web form email - no response yet >>>
Hello, Please help me find a resolution to a repeatable problem with Sonar Home Studio 6.2.2. DESCRIPTION: Under certain conditions, playing back an audio track produces a buzz rather than the audio just recorded. STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. setup for ASIO recording ... Options > Audio > Advanced > Driver Mode: ASIO (close SHS & reopen) 2. open a new blank file and insert a stereo audio track 3. [R] arm the track for recording using any available ASIO channel (I used in00 and out00) 4. play the source, and record a few seconds 5. [R] diss-arm the track 6. playback the track 7. rather than hearing the audio, a loud "buzz" is heard I've discovered a couple temporary workarounds: (a) OR (b)... (a) [R] re-arm the track for recording - allows the track to play OK (b) click menu: Options > Audio > [OK] - allows the track to play OK NOTE: I cannot reproduce this problem using Sound Forge 9 - the track plays back OK. Here is some configuration information that may be helpful. ----Hardware / Software configuration----(begin) Driver Name:kX Audio Driver (Debug) Driver Date: Aug 24 2007 17:27:15 Driver Version: 5.10.00.3539 - debug DB Name:Aud2ELiveBay SB0380 10k2 [dd00] PCI Information: Device: 41102 Subsys: 20071102 ChipRev: 4 Card is '10k2' Card has MPU device Card model is '5.1' Card is Audigy2-compatible Card HAS AC97 codec Codec name: Unk AC97-codec [83847650] 3D Extension: SigmaTel 3D Enhancement Codec is 2.0 compliant Capabilities[6a90] : -headphone out- DAC resolutions : -16-bit- -20-bit- ADC resolutions : -16-bit- -20-bit- Ext Capabilities [605]: -var rate PCM audio- -slot/DAC mappings- Port: dd00 Irq: 0x5(5) Playback buffer: 20a0 Record buffer: 4000 Number of AC3 buffers: 4 Tank memory: 256 kb GSIF buffer: 256 samples OS version: [2 5 1 Service Pack 2; 2 5 1 Service Pack 2; 156 148] ----Hardware / Software configuration----(end) Please let me know if I can provide any missing pieces to this puzzle. You can try this: goto the AUDIO properties in Sonar - set a different Latency in the kX ASIO control panel. Then set latency back to what you want - I have reset ASIO drivers this way before with same symptom.
Also - playing with the 'Sync:' in kX ASIO cp can affect the frequency of this error occuring. But default works best for me. This error typically happens at times I dis-arm recording an audio track. Some times its consistent, other times it works fine?? So The way I work now, is to use one track to record all the time, and drag takes to a new wave track - and avoid having to arm/disarm track records so often. |

Hey Maddogg6,
THANKS ... so much for this info! I'm all about workarounds, especially when using software from a big company with potentially slow bug fix turnaround. Do you happen to know if this behavior occurs with drivers other than kx, or are we the chosen ones? Thanks again, Ken |
