Hi, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I've been searching the forums and can't find it. Most recording questions regard mics that plug directly into the soundcard.
I have a mic that I hook up to my UA-4FX preamp via XLR and from there it goes to USB. In applications such as skype, I simply set my input to UA-4FX. I'm using Ableton Live - I set my audio driver to KX and checked the INPUT CONFIG to see what inputs I had, and it listed 0. In output config I had many, up to 16 I believe. I can't figure out how to get my UA-4FX as an input so I can record vocals to audio tracks in Ableton. When I hit hardware setup in Live, which will take a user into the settings of an ASIO Driver (Such as ASIO4ALL) - I'm hit with simple configuration options such as sample rate. I've been reading up on DSP, but still can't figure out how to set my UA-4FX as an input via the kx driver. I've included some images below: This is what my INPUT CONFIG looks like: http://www.kalleload.net/uploads/hngbonwtjqjx.jpg This is what my OUTPUT CONFIG looks like: http://www.kalleload.net/uploads/yxkaahniaqcc.jpg This is what HARDWARE SETUP gives me: http://www.kalleload.net/uploads/totmvrgqnucc.jpg When I try to select an INPUT on an AUDIO TRACK (Notice it says 1/2 under Ext. In) The only option I have is CONFIGURE (Normally, if I were using my ASIO4ALL, if I selected the AUDIO TRACK as an IN track using the IN button, it knows to use my mic / preamp because it's set in the hardware setup for ASIO4ALL's options) - Anyway, this is what appears after I hit CONFIGURE: http://www.kalleload.net/uploads/uhjjagpkhyja.jpg Can anyone help me with this? I'm beyond perplexed. ![]() Thanks in advance. |

Re: External Mic Recording in KX
kX ASIO cant record in 44Khz - change Abletons Sample rate to 48Khz- then open the Hardware Setup, the kX ASIO control Panel should open - and select '10kX 16Bit/48Khz [16 +16]' on the Format drop down menu.
Perhaps you might have to do the above in reverse order..?? But the kX ASIO format shows [16 +0] - the '0' is showing no inputs available in that format. The inputs should be available then. |

Re: External Mic Recording in KX
Doh!
![]() So the next step is figuring out how to have my mic as one of the inputs or somehow route it to an ASIO in the DSP? Sorry if I'm completely wrong, just got a hold of these drivers recently. My inputs now work, and From the input menu I have 1/2 (both chans) and chan 1 and chan 2 (I enabled only this amount in input config) - so now is it possible to get my mic to input to 1/2? Via DSP or an alternative route? Thanks for the much needed assistance thus far. |

Re: External Mic Recording in KX
You need to use the UA-4FX's ASIO driver (not kX ASIO) to record from your MIC using ASIO.

Re: External Mic Recording in KX
So I have to switch my audio device in Live's audio settings from the KX Driver to the UA-4FX? Doing so won't allow me to hear the track I'm recording vocals over, oh fiddlesticks.

Re: External Mic Recording in KX
Yup, if it is not connected to the sound card, then you have to use the driver for whatever it is connected to (same as you had to do in Skype).
Your only other option (aside from connecting the UA-4FX to the sound card, instead of using USB) is to use a different interface that allows you to choose separate input/output devices. i.e. You could use MME/Wave/WDM, but then you will not get low latency recording. You might try kernel streaming if it is supported by your recording application and the driver for the UA-4FX. Personally, I would probably connect it to the sound card using the digital connections (if you do not have the Audigy drive, you could probably use the internal CD_SPDIF header). Hmm yeah I could do that. I'll look into it and see how it works out. Thanks for all the help, really appreciate it.
