Elektronik is on a distinguished road

help needed please :)

hi all

I have a few questions and I really hope someone here can help.

I have an "Audigy Player" soundcard I think its the oldest/first audigy card that came out, it has the colored ins/outs and not gold ones... I just installed kx driver 3545b, is this the latest version?

anyway..I am using Cubase SX 3 & I'm looking at the various options in the ASIO control Panel and I was just wondering what is all this [16+16],[8+8],[2+0] stuff? I understand the rest of it just not what those numbers mean.

The other thing Im confused about is all this swapping of front and rear outputs stuff, is it saying that I should have better sound if I plug my headphones into the black socket instead of the light green one? because I have tried this with my Sennheiser HD 595's & its significantly quieter and the sound doesnt seem as spacious somehow.

thanks

[Playback channels available + Recording channels available]

You'll notice - 44Khz - you only have playback channels and '0' recording channels.
Only 48Khz has any recording channels. This is rather important for setting up DAW's.

I dont know about your hardware specifically - but for most SBLive this is true...

The fronts are based on an AC97 codec while the rear out is based on a better codec - but not amplified (actually, being amplified was part of the problem, the amp, being lower cost, adds undesirable side effects)
kX being marketed for music production, has these outputs swapped by default with the assumption people already understood this about their soundcards.

Of course, it is highly recommended to go with what ever sounds best - your headphones are probably not very sensitive and need more 'umph' to drive them. My headphones with my A2ZS is too loud and does not have an ac97 based codec for the front out. A higher quality amp may improve audio quality if using the rear out, but as i said, I am not intimate with your particular hardware (ie, what codec it uses for the front vs rear - I suspect it is also ac97 based tho).

On most (all?) models, only the front jack supports headphones (has a headphone amp). This is usually indicated in the manual, under "Connectivity", it will say something like "Stereo headphone support on Front Line-Out".
