Ok, i'm new with Cubase. I've been using Sonar/Cakewalk for a few years now but i've been wanting to give a try at Cubase for so long.
I downloaded the latest Kx drivers. Installation was without a glitch. Did some audio recordings in CoolEdit to make sure i was understanding the mixer panel. Now for the ASIO part. Do i have something special to set it up??? I installed Cubase and ran the ASIO setup and got a message that everything was OK. I opened the Kx ASIO settings, i noticed that the sample frequency was set to 48 something and that latency was at 21 something ms. Do i have to adjust these settings??? Any special things to setup in Cubase too??? Hope someone can give me some guiding lines so i start in the good direction. Rock on! BenoA |

I didn't want to open a new thread cause it would have same subject.
Can somebody explain the letancies - what if I choose to low (2.66)? Second is that I get a little noise after every drawn note in pianoroll. When I click I hear a note and amidiatly after that I hear short "Shss". |

Cubase SX + Kx drivers
jes, you can adjust the latency to a lower value, try 5ms or 10ms. but you can also try 2,66ms. what cubase version are you using? in the settings, there you find the button for asio-panel, there are also vst-input and vst-output. set the ins and out to 2 channels, (kx0, kx1). this means, you have one stereo input and one stereo output. normally this is enough, when you want to rec. track after track. the latency means, for example, you play one track, (midi or audio) and want to rec. something to another audiotrack. you´ll hear the music, play an instrument or use your voice and the record is 2,66ms later than the other track, but you can´t hear 2,66ms. try also to "play" with the DSP, this is the best thing in kx (and the latency).
hope it helps, and sorry about my english. regards, gerald

I've just started using CubaseSX 2.0 with the KX project drivers. I can't say enough good things about these drivers, especially compared to the standard creatives ones.
At first they were a god send as it allowed me to use GigaSampl;er but now I've started using Kontakt instead. Someone with greater knowledge than I may correct me but AFAIK but SBlive cards use 48Khz by default, the KXproject drivers allow you to change this to 44KHz. One of the benefits should be less CPU overhead but I'm not sure if there are any cons. Thanks to these drivers you can set the latency to a lot lower than standard. Latency basically is the delay before you hear a sound after it's triggered. If it's too high then they'll be a noticeable pause in your notes going into Cubase after you've played them. 10Ms should be OK for most people but the lower you can go with out hearing pop's and crackles the better. I can manage 2.66 on mine but my P4 2.8C is running at 3.67 but 5ms is still very usable even for drummers. |
