No Record w Sound Forge

Sorry to return to an old thread but I have installed the New KX drivers and do love their speed And I love the modularity of this
but I have a problem,

Soundforge, Vegas, and Acid have stopped working in record mode.
Playback isn't a problem

When I try to record the counter doesn't even move past 00:00
and any file I record is completely blank, not just silent but contains no data or length.

Acid the prog just gives me an error and crashes
Vegas just moves the cursor and then records nothing

I am using an Audigy Platinum internal under WIN-XP (2.0g P4, 512ram, 7200rpm drives, no other sound cards, recording in 48k16bit stereo with the AC97 input)

I am able to record in Fruity loops so the DSP routing must be ok.

If these programs are incompatable with asio and KX then what does everybody on this list use? (I especially need to record What U hear on the fly and for hours sometimes)

In ASIO you can only record at 48khz, not 44.1khz...

I have never recorded with Soundforge, Vegas or Acid, but I can't imagine that they are incompatible with the KX drivers. I am guessing that some settings need to be changed in those particular programs or in windows to get things working. for example:"Hardware Acceleration" set to full in Multimedia/Control Panel or selecting 48000 sampling rate in your application.

People up here use, Sonar, Cubase, Logic, N-Track and other programs

rolleyes

Yes it is odd

I have done some further testing

I can't record with any of the simple programs

No Sound Forge 5
no Goldwave
No Sound Recorder from the windoze Accessories!!
None of about a half dozen other shareware recorders I downloaded

I am using full hardware accelleration.

I have reinstalled Sound Forge after the drivers too

Maybe I don't have all the Original Creative drivers uninstalled?
I'll try to find the FAQ on that but again any help would be great

I tried someone's suggestion and installed Winmedia 9.0 and restarted

but no, That didn't work

So far in the Sound forge window for device in recording I only get the options of

Microsoft sound Mapper
and
KX Wave

Should there be a MME device as well?

kx wave IS the MME device i think, but make sure you check the ac-97 page and the record window, you may have muted something in those windows

Yeah,

I messed about for a day or so with the mixer, but i'm pretty well convinced that isn't it either....the mute buttons are hard to see when you're color blind...

but that doesn't account for the freezing of the counter?

Is there an exact list of the files one needs to delete from the inf and other system type folders when removing the original Creative drivers. I couldn't find it on the KX sites and I ended up following the instructions on Craetive's website for uninstalling their drivers.

Maybe a factor? there seem to be some files related in the windows/inf folder but I am not experienced enough to know exactly which to remove without a tutorial

thanx for the help so far though eveyone here and on the em411 site!!

Well unless someone comes up with a better suggestion-here is something that worked for me using Win 98SE. This is a method involving ideas from a few Win 98SE / KX users. Keep in mind that this might be total mythology that I am passing on to you but it worked for me.

I haven't used XP so I don't know exactly where the INF files are on that OS. I have KX installed here at work as well on a Win 2K machine.

in the folder C:\WINNT\INF I did a search for *.INF files containing text CREATIVE. You could also try AUDIGY in your case.

When you get the results, you should double click the files and open them with notepad. See which ones are Creative Labs drivers and Which are KX drivers.

I just renamed the ones that I was pretty sure I didn't need with an IMP extension instead of INF.

Some of us have had troubles installing the full version of 3537 so I uninstalled the full version, Installed an earlier version of KX-3534f, then installed the updated version of 3537. This method worked for me.

I am not sure where older KX versions are available, in case you want to try this method.

I guess you could contact me by private mail and if you can accept large email attachments, I could send an older version to you.

TravelRec left a post in the GENERAL DISCUSSION forum giving a link to old drivers.

See "98SE hangs during boot after kX install.."

Good Luck,
Doug

yeah,

i had exactly the same problem, worked one week on every kx setting (glad that i´m now understanding how the dsp is working with my audigy2, more or less) and i´ve got no sound at all until last sunday.

i don´t know why but it works now. i think it will last a few weeks for me to understand the exact preferences how to record in sf7 and what (the bit rate etc.).

the only thing i found out is when i´m using the hq driver instaed of the 0/1 in sf7 i have to set the sampling rate on 96k in the kx mixer and using 16b/44.1k in the sf recording window. when i go below 96k in the mixer i have a pitched recording.

i´m using the latest driver and the default 10k2 kx dsp setup.

ciao,

I have a similar problem - Sound Forge 8 not working with KX ASIO. It works wit MM Recording, but not ASIO. It gives me error messages or the counter freezing and empty files described above. Very strange indeed.
