Sonar 3 & KX ASIO driver recording troubles
Like dozens of other KX Driver users whose messages I've read here, I'm having trouble recording with the ASIO drivers.
My computer is a P4 3.2GHz with 1GB of RAM and lots of fast RAID0 hard drive space. The soundcard is a SB Live 5.1 Digital OEM (SB0220 10k1). I run Sonar 3 PE with various hard and soft synths & drum machine. I DID uninstall the Creative drivers before installing KX Version 5.10.0.3537 Connecting prolog in0 and in1 to epilog asio0 and asio1 does not work for me, though a few times it would work on left channel only. No rhyme or reason why it would work one time and not another. I spent hours of total confusion (checking the wires - why only one channel???) trying to make it work. Connecting prolog in0/in1 to epilog asio4/asio5 doesn't work either. I read a message here that connecting xrouting RecL/RecR to epilog asio0/asio1 would work. Tried that and I still get left channel only. So I tried xrouting RecL/RecR to epilog asio4/asio5. That works fine!!! I assume (haven't tried it) that other channels besides 4/5 would work as well. Is this a problem with the KX drivers? Hopefully it will be fixed in the next release because it seems there's a lot of people with various DAW's all having the same problem. The drivers are awesome. Love the ultra low ASIO latency! For performance like that I can put up with some annoyances, ya know? |

When I connect xrouting RecL/RecR to the same peak plugin, everything works fine. Guess I'll just keep on using that for now. This OEM version of the SB Live has been a pain since day one. Creative won't acknowledge that they even made the SB0220, even tho they obviously did. Their online drivers won't install - they just give an error that says there is no creative sound card installed. I had to get drivers from a third party source. Now I use the KX drivers. If I buy an Audigy 2 PCI OEM card, are they any less trouble? How about an Audigy 2 NX 7.1? Maybe I should dump the Creatives and go to something semi-pro? But I'm cheap! I don't wanna spend that much.

i bought myself an OEM audigy card, the sb0162 and it works perfectly, twice the DSP resources.
but try using the SRC plugin instead of the Prolog, its found in the profx menu, then set it to ac-97

I do notice one oddity tho. The SRC plugin must be a little noisy. With nothing playing, the levels constantly bounce around between -66 and -60. I wonder if that's high enough to hear in quiet sections of a recording. Maybe I'll have to tinker with one of those noise gate plugins I see there... Is there any place where I can get some documentation on all the KX plugins? I barely knew they were there before you told me which ones to use, and I still don't know what they all do. Thanks for your help. |
