Problems with sampling rate in Cubase VST 5.0
Hi folks!
I own a sound blaster live card and use it together with the newest version of the kxproject driver (kx-asio). Everything is working great so far except of the correct configuration of the sampling rate. Everytime I start Cubase VST I receive the error message: "The samlingrate of the song doesn't match with the current sampling rate; Shall it be changed, so that they match?" an if I click on yes: "The Samlingrate cannot be changed, probably it is not supported or extern clock". This error becomes noticeable just when I have recorded a couple of audio tracks or midi tracks with cubase instruments, which are played back in real time. First the track snaps or cracks slightly, but with the more tracks I use the Cracking gets more and more unbearable and the playback velocity decreases distinctly, too. It's as if the soundcard was overloaded. With Latency-Times over 10ms it's not that bad, but I can't work with them since I have to listen to all previous recorded tracks while recording a new one. It's nearly the same with Cubase SX. Maybe someone has an idea how I could fix this problem? Yeah, thanks. It fixes my problem with the error message. But it doesn't have any practical effect. I still habe problems with the sampling rate. Maybe my computer is to be working to full capacity. I will try cancelling all processes that are not necessary and that are many in my case. Could that have an effect, because I also have problems if I only have one simple Midi - sf2 Soundbank track. One time I play it, there are no problems. At any other time the speed of the Click varies, sometimes it stops shortly and then proceeds at a lower speed. Its annoying. Could that be a matter of my overloaded system? (addition): I took a look at the IRQ assignment of my system. The result was, that the soundcard has to share it's IRQ with 4 other devices. The graphics card, the tv-card, the LAN-card and a thing called promised controller. Plus my system isn't very appropriate for realtime data processing at the moment. I only have very few memory free on my boot disc (470mb) and only 256 ram and a enormous bunch of programms and processes blocking a large part of it. I try fixing this problems and then have a look at the performance. By the way does anybody know if there's a program with which I can do some kind of benchmark my system to find out how appropriate it is for recording with low latency times?

ACPI could be the problem
Hi, its me again. I wanted to change the IRQ of my soundcard, but it was not possible because of ACPI, the system who is responsible for power management and automatic IRQ assignment. As long as ACPI is installed, no manual changing of IRQ's is possible. But removing ACPI is extremely risky. No one guarantees that ones system will still work afterwards. So this is my last question. Does anybody of you think that setting my soundcard on a single IRQ without interference from other devices will help fixing my problem?

Hi!
I think your system should work fine with 10ms latency. With my spec´s (see below) it works really cool - I think, your problems are lying in too much program activity or hardware (harddisk) misconfiguration. ACPI works fine under XP, don´t touch it. Check in cubase for large memory blocks in Audio ->system performance to buffer HD-files. This gives you a smoother playback and recording performance. De-install or de-activate unused services and switch the processors power to background services - this may help you. Try to upgrade your harddisk, make different pertitions for system, programs and music applications and make a fixed virtual memory file on a different partition than the system runs and so on. Search the net for tweaking XP to the maximum performance. |
