Cubase SX... 10min and it cracks and pops

Hi, I use Cubase SX 2 with my e-guitar. The problem is, that after ca 10 min smooth playing the sound's getting crappy, it cracks and pops. It's clean again, when I change the latency settings or restart Cubase. I've tried 5-42ms latency, it doesn't matter, after 5-10 min it cracks again. I used kx drivers in ver. 3537 and 3534 - the same problem (with 3534 I could play about 20min without cracks). The guitar was plugged directly in line-in or micro.

Please help me, what should I do?

System specs:
Athlon 1GHz
Creative SB:Live!
768MB RAM
VIA KT133A

i think your pc is not optimal configured for audio. what os do you use?
when your soundcards irq is shared with some other devices, then you get cracks and pops. look into your system-hardware and have a look to irq. when there is ACPI-PC, change it to STANDARD-PC. there are also some services, you´ll never use.
look also at http://www.musicxp.net/ and http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
there are some useful tips.

Hi!

Better leave your PC running as ACPI system - for XP it works fine. Check your system for applications that may start after 10 mins, so things like screensavers or cooling software and disable them. Finally disable services you don´t need (like geraldandreas mentioned) and switch your CPU-Power to background tasks to increase ASIO-performance.
