Which processor should I choose? is cache important (ASIO)?

Hello everybody! I'm planning to set up a new system for live use, but I was wondering if the processor cache would make any diference in ASIO/audio aplications...

I'm going to get an AMD XP@ at least 2000 mhz, but should I get a 512Kb cache Barton or a 256Kb-cache T-Bed? What do you think?

thanks.

why are you going to get a socket A AMD chip? If you're going to get an AMD chip, get an Athlon 64. It's a much better processor than either of the two XPs you mentioned.

But if you must get an XP chip, get the barton. Runs cooler than the T-breds, and has the extra cache and a larger FSB than the T-breds

Because I'm going to get a second-hand athlon XP for about 65€... I would pay at least twice that amount for a new A64, not to mention the motherboard... But still I have no answer for my question

Is the cache important in ASIO aplications (latency), or the FSB (by the way)?

thanks

i'd say get the barton. AthlonXPs love higher FSB. The barton has 512K L2 cache, and a higher FSB than the T-breds, which makes up for the lower clock speeds. I'd say get nothing less than a 2500 barton.

2500 barton and clock it up to 3200 speeds on a 400mhz FSB
