ASIO drivers "disappeared" and SB0060 or CT4830? (which would be better)
Current configuration:
Generic White Box PC PIII 850MHZ 384MB RAM Windows 2000 Professional SP4 (with all the latest patches as of this morning) Sound Blaster Live 5.1 (SB0060) I have both a SB0060 (SB Live 5.1) and a CT4830 (SB Live Value) . The box I installed the KX drivers (version 5.10.0.3537) on currently has the SB0060 installed. I ran into an issue yesterday where all of the sudden, my KX ASIO drivers "disappeared". This occurred after 3 months of no issues with the KX drivers. I have a number of soft synths that can run standalone (using ASIO, WDB or Directsound) or in a host (sonar, project5). Yesterday, I booted up and all of my apps no longer show an ASIO driver for the KX, only WDB or Directsound. Since either of these other choices have higher latences, I wish not to use them. I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers but no joy. Additionally, attempting to start the KX ASIO control panel does "nothing" (It never loads). While digging around this forum and the readme that came with the drivers, I found an item in the readme mentioning hardware issues with the SB006X cards with ASIO that cause input/output issues. Just prior to my ASIO drivers "disappearing", I had been trying to do some ASIO routing in the DSP setup for KX. This prompted me to wonder if maybe I should switch cards with my software development server which has a CT4830 installed with this box that I use only for audio applications. This box is my secondary audio applications box, but I'm getting ready to gig in a couple of months and would like to use the KX drivers and one of my SB Live cards in this box instead of taking my other ASIO device (M-Audio Omnistudio USB) out to the gig. I would use my OmniStudio, but I find that the KX drivers tax my CPU less (the box is only an 850 MHZ PIII) and I tend to have just slightly lower latency with a PCI card than the USB device. I also would prefer not to subject my OmniStudio to a smoky bar. Thoughts on both the ASIO driver "disappearing" issue and the choice between the two cards specifically for use with ASIO would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Eyekahn |

Eyekahn,
I could be wrong but I thought that the SB0060 problem is just a problem with routing. You have to fish around to figure out where your inputs or outputs are going. Input 01/1 might not actually show up on your prolog as 0/1 but some other pair-something like that. I don't think it is a problem that would stop your card from working. I don't know about your problem of losing kX-I'm guessing that it is more of a Windows problem than kX. If you just messed up the DSP, you can right click it and reinitialize it to get the default back. Try reinstalling kX if that doesn't work. As far as which card to keep, put them both in and hook one to the other with a S/PDIF cable and you'll have some extra inputs. Good luck |

I figured this out after I'd re-installed my whole OS and then installed the KX drivers. They threw up a message about not being able to reset the device correctly due to settings in the control panel, and to read the documentation to see what I need to set. I found the information in the readme.html page and was able to resolve the issue. Prior to reading the readme and setting the hardware accelleration to full and the quality to best, I was also still not able to launch the ASIO control panel. After changing these settings and being able to run the device reset, the ASIO control panel now launches. Quote:
