Sound Forge & kX setup for recording
Hello,
I'm trying to record with Sony Sound Forge 8 using a Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro. I'm trying to setup the Line 3 In, using a ProFx ASIO plugin (as I read in another thread on this forum). So, I connected Line 3 Left [8018] in 12 (prolog) to ASIO 12 (ProFX ASIO plugin) and then I connected Line 3 Right [8019] in 13 (prolog) to ASIO 13 (ProFX ASIO plugin). However when I select kX in 12/kX in 13 there are no levels showing on the level monitor. Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

If you are connecting directly from prolog, then make sure that the slider in kxmixer's "Ins and Outs" page is not muted, and that the volume is at 100%, and that the appropriate item is selected in the dropdown box on the AC97 page. Use a peak meter to verify.

Ok I'm a little confused. From what I've read on this forum, AC97 is my onboard sound card not my Audigy card. I'm trying to record from the Line 3 Input on my Audigy ZS Platinum Pro card. Besides that there is only Line In on the AC97 dropdown box, there is no Line In 3. Does this matter? In fact I have the AC97 disable in my BIOS as I didn't think I need it since I'm using the Audigy Card. Any ideas?

Although you may have AC97 onboard sound too (which you disabled in your bios), AC97 itself is a codec, and what you see in kX Mixer is your Audigy. As for Line_In 3, I am not exactly sure how you would use it. I think it may be the AUX2 slider on the "Ins and Outs" page, which I guess would mean that you are not using AC97, and as such you can leave the AC97 slider (again on the "ins and Outs" page) muted (and as such it should not make a difference what you select on the "AC97" page, as it is not used). I cannot be sure, but give it a try (using the AUX2 slider (unmute it, and set volume)).

Actually there is a Line In 3 slider on mine, which I have unmuted and raised the volume to max. From what I've read, the Audigy 2 Platinum needs some P16v tweaking to get it to work. I think I need to understand the basics of the DSP more. Just found a great article that explains it in great detail. Anyone who is having problems wrapping their mind around the DSP should read this...
http://thomasabarnes.beplaced.com/new_page_2.htm and http://members.home.nl/nahutec/kxtutor/kxtutor.html I'll post again when I figure things out. Thanks for the advice. |

Ok, well after much reading and playing around with the DSP I finally have levels in Sound Forge. Recording is mapped to "kX in 12/kX in 13". However the only way it will work is when the settings are at 16 bit. Whenever I set it at 24 bit I get an error message that says "Audio Device Cannot be Opened" "kX in 12/kX in 13 does not support 24 bit 48,000" Any ideas on this? Is it that kX drivers do not support 24 bit recording on Audigy 2 zs boards?

kX does not yet support 24bit through ASIO inteface (the one you selected in SoundForge). To record 24bit in SoundForge use WaveHQ device (to set WaveHQ 's source to Line3 use P16v source selector on the main kX Mixer page)

Sorry for taking so long to report back. Hey Max M thanks for the advice! I set the recording in Sound Forge to WaveHQ and it recorded in 24 bit like a charm. Thanks!
Will ASIO support 24 bit recording in the future? Thanks for all the help |
