Problems recording asio in delphi

I am trying to record asio in delphi using the asiohost component from http://www.tobybear.de/d_snippets.html
There is an example source included for a sine generator, I modified the code to take the first sample from the buffer and put this it into a label so i can see what is going on.
Now I have several problems, the asio channels keep shifting or there is no input at all and frequently the driver freezes! That means all appliciations using audio freeze up and it keeps playing the last seconds over and over again in a loop, I cant shutdown windows and I have to use the reset button to restart my computer.

I was using 3537 but an upgrade to 3538i did not help.
My soundcard is a sb0100 but kx recognises it as a sb0102.
My OS is windows 2000.

What can be going on here???
