Update:

I just installed the 4.9 Omega's on my PC and it recognized the the 9800SE as a 9800XT! This was made possible by the patch that me972 sent me to fix the Device ID problem I had (thanks to a mistake I made during the flashing process). Kudos to me972 for helping me on this one!

system ram or Graphics card memory??

either ways I dont think so... at lease not on 3Dmark03..its optimized for 128MB cards... thoes were the top of the line cards in those days... :-)
not so sure about 3DMark 05....on that you'll have to open another thread..

hi, could you just keep me up to date please,

is it now possible to get a 9800se aiw card up to 9800xt speeds? and which bios would be best for my powercolor 9800se (256bit) 128mb card?

http://www.tul.com.tw/global/product...at2=6&cat3=259

i am at the moment unsure about what memory it uses.

also would the rev. 3 arctic cooler be sufficient and suitable for the card?

thanks in advance (much appreciated)

Ian

as for the Artic Cooling Rev 3 fitting your Card - I have no Idea.. I haven't tried it.

as for converting your AIW SE to XT. - sure its possible if and only if you were lucky enought to get a card with a good set of 4 extra pipe lines.

have you installed OMEGA drivers and tested your card with all 8 pipes enabled under FARCRY or DOOM 3?
have you tested the card under XT clocks???

these are all tests that need to be done before considering an XT flash..

i haven't received it yet, i was just asking questions prior to receiving it!

but so long as the 4 extra pipelines work and i fit a decent cooler (aka arctic cooler rev3) should i be able to clock it at and beyond pro speeds (9800 pro not 9600! lol!)

also which are best? the hacked omega drivers or the hacked catalyst drivers?

cheers ian

me972, i flashed with the modified bios u sent me and it didn't work . i managed to reflash with the backup so now i'm up and runing but i still want to make my board a 9800XT. Why do u think it did not work? What else can i try? Should i resend u the original bios? Or should i try one of the bioses that worked on other users' boards. I have the xpertvision 9800se with 128MB 256bits 2.8ns HYNIX memory. Thanks!

I sent you a BIOS that had much tighter timings then what you had...that was exactly the same as a pure XT ... seems it was too much..
resend the bios and I'll redo it for you.

yes - since in most cases the voltages are different and the timings are tighter and the frequencies are higher... so this means more heat..

I baught mine about a year ago for almost 300$
when a pro and XT were over 400 here where I live..
so I had to take the risk
as for the RAM I have - its 2.8 hynix. but I 've been using a samsong bios on it.
found it to be alittle faster then most.
until a month ago when I found a hynix based XT BIOS and moded my original bios to similer timings as that and got a better bios.

as for finding a PowerColor like mine... I think newegg have this moddle.
since its old and PowerColor don't make it any more.

worked perfectly! 10x a lot, me972! i might send u my brother's bios (has the same board as i do) if he will agree with the flashing.
I reflashed with the original bios, though, because i tried the nature test in 3dm2k3(no artifacts) and the memories and the gpu radiator were to hot for my taste(don't have extra coolin' yet). But as soon as i cool my board i'll be smokin'
Again: GREAT work, dude!

I wonder whether my YUAN 9800se can be flashed?
It is running fine with 8 pipes with no artefact
I heard that the quality of a YUAN 9800se is worse than a powercolor one...
please help... thanks a lot

What are you doing in the bios mods? Is this still considered safe/worthwhile only for r360'ers? I've got an early pro, and am running right now at 410/368..Memory is sinked but doesn't clock too high til things start artifacting..Got two case fans front mounted going right over the card, 3 psu fans, exhaust, etc..Hit the wall with the memory there.

first of all a PRO/SE bios can be moded to XT with no timings changed at all and then your card is basicly recognized as an XT but you get nothing out of it accept some driver optimizations that an XT gets. - in this case nothing bad can happen to the card cause nothing changed.

as for a preformance mod - this means that the clock rates are higher - to XT speeds and the timings are tighter... is the card in this case is not cooling upgraded then it can burn out.. this is why many tests must be done before the mod
as for 360 or 350 cores - there is not difference!!!!

rgds me972

p.s. sorry for ending it with the !!!! its just that I've red many replis from peope that don't understand a damm thing teling other people not to mod even before they tested the card properly..

we cant flash it unless we can reach 415/732 right?
so how do I make sure I wont burn it since 9800se dont come with thermal sensor?

well its not true... cause your card can be moded with an XT bios thats been clocked down to the speeds that your card can hold.
in any case even with the slower speeds you'll get better speeds then the original bios you had..
not to mention that some times an XT bios will enable your card to reach higher clock rates since the voltage settings change thus the card can reach better speeds...
