AIW 9800 pro issues

Hey guys long time reader/lurker, I recently replaced my AIW 9800 with a BBA x800 pro, awesome card btw no issues at all.

A very good friend of mine was in dire need of a good vid card so i shipped him my AIW, Just to let u know the AIW has a TT giant 3 cooler on it but the card was never overclocked.

After instaling the AIW he noticed artifacts or coruption during post followed by errors in windows, initualy the monitor had a split down the centre of the screen where the left side was darker than the right, after adjusting the res he noticed the screen was covered in little pale yellow dots, folders and such had almost a ghosting effect on them and left trails when dragged, after driver instals the corruption worsened.

Im totaly upset over this, i didnt charge him for the card but sent it ground thru UPS with several other pc parts for his son's pc.

He is sure the heatsink is on properly and hadnt shifted and that his psu is upto the task also it is seated correctly, any help u can give is apreciated as i cant RMA this card without a standard AIW hsf, stupidly when the original hsf burnt out i threw it away and bought the giant 3 the card is 18 months old and i never had any gameing issues with it till i sent it to him

Thanx for reading this any advice or info is eagerly awaited

Greetings and welcome to DH,

Start off with listing some of the vital specs of his PC. Afterwards, ask him to verify the AGP voltage. Also ask him to find another PC to test this card with, determine if it's either the card or the PC. The artifacts/corruption you speak of hint on memory related artifacts. Maybe the card was damaged during shipping?

Sorry about that his pc is a Gigabyte nforce 2 mobo running a gig of pc3200 ram not sure of brand , a barton 2500 all stock, his psu has 35 amps 5 volt line and 33 amps 12 volt line an Enermax 460 whisper i believe.

The other parts i sent him was the old pc i ran this card in a Gigabyte kt400a mobo with a Tbred 2700 same issues, not high end but stable and a good gaming setup on the cheap

Hmm. If the card was working before shipping it and now it's borked over at his location (and he's 100% sure that the computer rigs are fine), then it must have been damaged during shipping.

What did you use to package the item? Anti-static bag?

All the parts i shipped were in thier own static bags and boxes within the shipping box except the video card, now i feel like a fool i didnt have a spare anti static bag that fit the huge cooler so i double wrapped it in plastic then covered with the polystirean (sp) chips to protect it, so probaly i killed it myself.

Thanx for the help

System Specs

Have you had him try to swap monitors? Granted it sounds like a defective card problem but...
