Omega Drivers and ATI Mobility Radeon X1400: unfriendly with FRAPS?

Since this is directly related to the video card drivers and not to the laptop itself, I thought of posting here instead of the laptop section.

Last year, I bought an Acer laptop, an Aspire 5670 ZB1, equipped with a 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (of which I have no complaints so far) and WinXP Pro SP2. Recently, for matters too stupid on my behalf to speak of in public, I did a complete restore to factory defaults, and have been reasonably happy so far. Few days after that, I installed the Omega Drivers (from OmegaDrivers.net - Home of the Omega Drivers for ATI & NVIDIA desktop/laptop cards. By: Omegadrive), following a friend's suggestion that these enabled control over much more stuff that the official ATI Catalyst Control Panel. Everything, so far, has been fine and dandy, except for one little thing.

Ever since I installed the Omega Drivers, FRAPS (a program to record video/screenshots from games) has stopped working correctly. For some freakish reason, the resulting capture video lags horribly (in both Media Player Classic, when viewed raw, and in Virtual Dub, when ready to encode to a compressed format) and, which has me even more stumped yet, won't record any sound (which is stupid, considering the Omega Drivers shouldn't have anything to do with sound).

Has anybody else found this situation happen to them? If not, what do you think could be the cause? I have tried lots of things so far, fumbling and tinkering with the Omega Drivers options, but no dice.

The specific game I'm having trouble with is Melty Blood Act Cadenza ver.B 1.03A, in case anyone's interested. If need be, I can also provide more details as to my machine's specs and OS, and anything else that might prove useful.

Thanks very much in advance.
