if you formated you need to install all drivers again, regardless of what windows tells you. don't use windows 'update driver' thingy, go to manufacturers site and manually download and install your drivers for your soundcard (and anything else you haven't:chipset, lan etc).

If you can't find the drivers you need, post your mobo/soundcard specs and I'll try and help out

go to the HP website, search the support section for your computer model, they should have a collection of drivers for your system

eek, just had a look at hp's support section
this was the best I could find, and is all but useless.

what does it say in Belarc under the Mutimedia heading, half way down, right hand side?

example: mine says' Gamesurround Muse 5.1 DVD' at the mo

that should give enough details to go and find appropriate sound drivers

after doing a search for your serial number on google, i found a reference to this:
"PGTD1-LA"

which to me sounds like a motherboard model, but there was nothing on the ASUS website, so it may be one designed for HP - search for that term on the HP website if you can
