What's a good card for...

Hey guys, I'm building a system for a buddy of mine. he wants to be able to use it as a home recording studio of sorts (midi, mics, etc.), nothing spectacular, just something to tool around with. What is a decent card for this sort of stuff? I'm thinking the budget for this card will be between $100-150 US. What other sorts of things should I be looking for? Thanks.

jiiteepee is on a distinguished road

If serious on recording ... for example ...

M-Audio 1010LT - http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOD1010LT (~200$)

Features
10 ins and 10 outs, XLR Microphone inputs with pre amps, S/PDIF I/O, MIDI I/O, wordclock I/O, 24-bit 96 kHz recording

If plenty of inputs/outputs needed and an ability to use with both laptop/desktop PC ...

Hercules 16/12 FW (~300$) - http://us.hercules.com/products/show...mp;b=1&f=1

SB Audigy or Audigy 2 + kX drivers will be more than sufficent (if he manage to get some additional inputs)

System Specs

if he's on a budget, and only needs two mono inputs and outputs, the behringer FCA202 is a good options, as long as there's an available firewire port

but as rogacz pointed out, an audigy or two on kX works quite well
