Need a powerful 2.1 set
I'm kinda torn on what to purchase atm for a GOOD 2.1 computer speaker setup. I'm replacing a kenwood receiver with 2 psb tower speakers, for reason a: to save space, and b: one of the towers has intermittent issues with its woofer cutting out.
Now i have a couple sets in mind: the klipsch promedia 2.1's and the logitech z2300. If I could get some of you guys to give me some experiences with them that would be cool, and hopefully fairly detailed. If there are other powerful 2.1 sets (available in canada) that you'd recommend instead, I'd appreciate knowing about them too ![]() The main thing getting in my way is whether the klipsches are worth the extra 80 or 90 dollars (they're about 220-240, the logitechs about 130)...there is nothing really bad that i've read about them. The logitechs on the other hand have had a couple negative reviews, mainly for the sub not reaching low enough ranges effectively, and some problems with the satallites either not keeping up with the sub, or lacking in the high ranges. Thoughts?

The Logitech's aren't even in the same league as the Klipsch speakers. The 2.1 Klipsch are the same speakers as the 4.1 set I think, but without the 2 extra satellites. Where in BC do you live? If you can get somewhere to hear your speakers beforehand, that would be ideal.
Alternatively, you could get some *really* nice sounding speakers, although it would be more pricey, but far better than going for 5.1 sound or full towers. I've got a pair of these hooked up to my Klipsch system, and they are multiples better than any stock multimedia speakers. You do need an amp and sub if you want low bass though, and I get the impression that might not be what you're looking for.

I have the Altec Lansing 621 Ultimate 2.1 setup and love them but the Klipsch should rock also

And as for the altecs, i read that they don't have a headphone jack anywhere on the unit...if true, that will not fly with me at all.

Well you know my thoughts on the Klipsches, Mark. Like I said before, they're one of the best 2.1 setups you can own

Have you listened to the Logitechs? Essentially, they lack on highs and detailed lows compared to the Klipsch... I've only listened to them quite briefly, so I'm not sure how the crossover between the sats/sub is. Compared to a good set of tower speakers, the Logitechs will definately be lacking more than the Klipsch in terms of audio quality.
NCIX has some good reviews and questions/answers about both the Klipsch and Logitech speakers. THX certification is junk for multimedia systems, btw, doesn't mean anything useful. Also, I'm curious, where are the Klipsch set available for 220-240? Not that I've really looked, but I might be ordering some in the future, and if they're advertised I can just pricematch at ncix.

There, and at any london drugs they are $239. I actually ended up going for the logitechs. I was going klipsch, except that i had to order them in from ld, and they had no estimate of when they would get any in stock. And online, the shipping was pretty expensive so i gave up on that as well. I ended up getting the logitechs for 130, and so far I am pleased with them. The soundtest at the store really did not do them justice compared to how they sound here at the house. The mids are nice, the sub is extremely powerful and sounds good; a lot better than i expected actually. The highs are slightly lacking compared to my old tower speakers, but nothing major.

![]() dj: That set looks nice from what I see... I've never really looked at anything better than the Klipsch set. When the price gets past that, I usually start looking at getting separate components, but I might have to take a gander at those.

mind you those prices are in AUD, i'm not aware of any online stores that service america, as they're aimed at semi-pro to pro audio
that's the set i'm looking at getting eventually (it all comes down to money) also the sub unit and the speaker pair can be purchases as seperate components, the sub has XLR inputs with an active crossover to satellite speakers (so you can use any you wish) also the sub has a bypass mode in case you don't feel like waking the rest of the house, in that mode it sends the full range audio signal directly to the satellite speakers

Those speakers look really sweet and i'd love to hear them. That bypass function would be really useful for me, because of being in an apartment. On the z2300 i already have to turn it down to about 1/4 or so...
