CMSS Headphone confusion (X-Fi)
I haven't found any documentation about "Macro FX" and "Elevation filter" in X-Fi game mode panel.
Does anyone know what it's all about? I've got it switched to "auto" all over the time. What does the specific setting do? |

I guess if you cant change it, it's most likely because your audio hardware isnt good nuff for it to be manually selected. =/ Just a guess though.

hi,
makro fx is something like crystalizer that make near ear objekts make sounds more 3d. i.e. a rocket that passes your ear near your head. the filter filters things behind you to increase the 3d effect i switched makro to "on" and the filter to "off" have fun inteks ps: i dont know what setting are used when on "auto" maybe "off" until a game (eax5?) set it to "on"

Isn't the elevation filter supposed to filter elevations?

MacroFX creates virtual channels between physical ones, creating even more precise 3D sound.
Elevation Filter takes care for sound "distortion" because of it's position over the head or below the head. So whats above you will sound like it's really above you and what sounds like below it will actually be there. Basically games already do this when they're powered by 3D sound engine but X-Fi takes it a step further by it's own algorithms. |

Yeah, and I think that it works great.... Doom 3 and Quake 4 sound more realistic. Some times I get cold chills all over mee...

Re: CMSS Headphone confusion (X-Fi)
On BF2 I noticed that when you walk normally and have the Elevation Filter on, the footsteps are waaaay too muffled! Not really worked out that well... They should enable the filtering when it passes a minimum range, like 2m or so...
Since I do not want muffled footsteps in BF2 (sound comes from below) I disabled elevation filtering, I will try out the MacroFX though... Thanks for your explanations, fellas! I been googling 20mins now, then reinstalled PAX drivers (mine were 2yrs old) and btw searched for macroFX.. THX!
