help getting MIDI/line in working

I have a Casio CTK-551 keyboard connected to the MIDI port on my new system. This keyboard worked with another system. I have tried noteworthy SW and cakewalk SW to receive the MIDI, but no luck. The system device manager says all is well with the MIDI drivers and the MIDI is enabled in the bios. Also, the line in audio is heard on the output speakers, but also does not get recorded by microsoft recorder. Any tips? I am running W2000 and 0201 bios. I have the Asus A8R32-MVP mother board.
Thanks.

what soundcard are you using?

also make sure you have the midi cables in the correct slot, if you have a gameport to midi adaptor you need to connect in to out, and out to in

I am using the built in sound capability of the motherboard. The motherboard came with gameport adapter that has a keyed connector to the motherboard. I will check again the in/out.

So the motherboard had a gameport header, and slot-plate cable for it?

The gameport midi seems to be pretty universal on sound cards, but I'm not at all sure if it's implemented on motherboards. If it isn't, then you'll need a USB-Midi instead.
