??? Any driver mods for real x-fi?

Hi,
i have a (real) x-fi ExtremeMusic. What I want to know is if there are any driver mods out there for this card that deliver more realistic sound than the original x-fi drivers from creative do (sound has too much bass)? So if you know any mod, please let me know.

Greetings

ASIO/Bit-matched output in Creation mode should give the most realistic sound you can get out from that card. If you think it's not realistic enough (?) then it's source or converter/op-amp/other electronical parts issue ... or your speakers/headphones you use to listen are crappy ones --> buy another card (Lynx 22/TWO's are good choices, but if you think they're too expensive then M-Audio Audiophile 192 is maybe the best one in it's price group < 200$ (also E-MU 1212M is quite good)) or speakers/headphones or get better sources.

BTW: Just wondering how can you tell what's realistic and what's not (i.e. which references do you have there to compare with)?

You're definitely right, that's really hard to judge. The only reference I have is from the hifi store I bought the boxes from (of course tested them before). Due to the fact that I just want less bass I'm really happy now with just using EQ to manage to get what I wanted. (BTW: Bitwise Output really sounds better for me than just enabling nothing but I still prefer the EQ solution). Thanks for your reply.

Switch to VST capable playback software (NI TRAKTOR BeatPort Player, Winamp, Foobar, MyMP3Pro, etc.) and use EQ plugin (there are many excellent ones as freeware @ KVR). BeatPort Player and MyMP3Pro supports VST natively, below are all software links you need to get Winamp and Foobar work w/ VSTs:

HTML Code:
<b>VST/DX plug-ins</b> with <b>Winamp</b> or/and <b>Foobar</b> --&gt; needed components :<br>
- for VST plug-ins : a <a href="http://www.savioursofsoul.de/Christian/Programs.htm" target="_blank">VST Host DSP for Winamp</a> plug-in for Winamp (this plug-in is needed for Foobar too)<br>
- for DX plug-ins : a <u>DirectX Host DSP for WinAmp</u>; <a href="http://www.chronotron.com/content.php?page=products#adaptx" target="_blank">Adapt-X</a> (sw) or <a href="http://perso.wanadoo.fr/vb-audio/us/products/dxrack/dxrack.htm" target="_blank">FFX-4 for WinAmp</a> (fw) !You can 'chain' multiple FFX-4 Racks by loading FFX-4 DX-VST in one of the slots.<br>
and to get Winamp plugins into use on Foobar the <a href="http://pelit.koillismaa.fi/plugins/dsp.php" target="_blank">bridge plugin for winamp DSP</a> for Foobar needs to be installed on your system.<br>

To get multiple plugins into simultaenous use, a VST Rack, Plug-in Chainer or 'VST Host' -plugin is needed :<br>
<a href="http://www.xlutop.com/html/chainer.html" target="_blank">XLUTOP Chainer</a> (commercial, demo), <a href="http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1068.html" target="_blank">CTAF MultiFXVST</a> (freeware), <a href="http://www.xt-hq.com/" target="_blank">energyXT<b>E</b> </a> (commercial, demo) ! note the E version (effect).
