i have a coolermaster830 case with front panel mic/headset. from what i have been reading here there appears to be no way to hook my xfi up to those plug-ins. am i correct?
if true, that means ill have to pay $80 for that stupid front i/o panel of theirs just so i can hook up my headset

well the AD_EXT on the X-FI doesn't have any analogue outputs, so you're out of luck there, but does your card have a white or black J1 connector with half-sized pins?

almost no case audio panel is designed to be used with a soundcard, they're almost entirely designed for use with motherboard sound, and hence the headers usually fit the motherboard's standardised pinout
unless you have a cable that goes from the panel, out the back of the computer, and into the jacks on a sound card (as is bundled with some cheaper cases) then you either have to modify the cable so that it will fit an analogue header on the card (only some audigy 2/4 cards are known to have these) or live without using them. The only other (extreme) alternative is to purchase/build an Digital to Analogue converter - which can be quite expensive.

From some website which say that the pin for xfi and a2zs is the same.
1 - Analog Ground 2 - Analog Headphone Out Left 3 - Audio Backpanel Mute -- short to ground to mute the backpanel (when headphones are plugged in) 4 - Analog Headphone Out Right 5 - same as #3 6 - Mic input from front panel 7 - No Connection 8 - VREF out -- voltage reference for Mic 9 - MIC IN MUTE -- ground when mic isn't plugged in, +12VDC when mic is plugged in 10 - Audio cable detect -- will be ground when headphones are plugged in (not normally used) hmm.

ok well using the pinout posted earlier in this thread, you should be able to re-wire the pins on your front panel connector and hook the front panel up

you say that like it is easy
if it is not possible to use the connectors from the case panel & put them onto the appropriate pin on the sound card, without trashing anything, then i it is to much for me![]() anyway the creative add-on is on the way so that will take care of it. though the panel on 830 coolermaster is in a much more convenient location & looks better

well it's easy for me, because i'm used to replacing cables
when i plugged my A2ZS into my front panel, i ended up using a pair of CD audio cables which had the proper sized connector (for the J1 header) at one end, with standard sized at the other
