First up, welcome to the forums!

The easiest way to get a hold of the driver is to download Realteks HD audio drivers, which you can get HERE. These are Realteks generic HD drivers for their chip. As part of the package Realtek includes the Microsoft UAA driver. J

ust extract the drivers manually (WinRAR works best for the exe file), and inside you should see a folder called "MSHDQFE". Within that folder you will see 2 more folders: 1 for Windows 2003, the other for Win2k/XP. Now, here's where it gets tricky. There are 2 XP files further in: one for SP1, and one for SP2. Just pick the one that suits your OS, and in the case of XP, the Service Pack version, and you should be good to go.

Hope that helps you out.

PangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nice

just to make sure this will work, uninstall the onboard sound drivers first, and then download this file - uaa_hdbus51015013.exe
http://www.google.com/search?num=100...51015013&btnG=
extract the downloaded file using WinRar, and install the file that is made for your Windows version,
and then re-install the driver.

One thing with installing the Microsoft HD driver is that this will not give you audio. It's just one piece of the overall software needed in order to get the audio to work. Normally you would install the UAA driver, and then the subsequent drivers. In the case of the Realtek drivers you need the UAA driver to be installed before you install their actual drivers (which is why they include the UAA driver as part of the package). Same thing can be said for other software sound cards and other devices (such as software modems).

Here's what I mean: Just recently I purchased a laptop from Quanta directly (part of an Intel deal), and they were using software audio and modem on it. In order to get that to work I first had to install the UAA driver. Right after rebooting Windows immediately recognized that there were new sound and modem devices, and I had to install the rest of the drivers for each of those for them to work.

Tarninc, can you post what motherboard or laptop you are using? It'd make things easier for us to find out the exact driver you need... or at least a compatible one.

Thanks, tarninc. That helps greatly.

Going by the specs on that site you have a Realtek AC'97 audio chip (based on the ALC658C chip). You can get the official Realtek drivers from their site HERE.

One thing of note: according to that sites specs you have Realtek AC97, however the list for their drivers mentions it being the Realtek HD chip. Kinda strange if you ask me. Bearing that in mind, IF the above drivers don't work for you then I would suggest trying the drivers that I link in my first post that had the UAA driver since they are the Realtek HD drivers. However, IF the specs are right, then the drivers I just linked to above should do the trick.

Either way, let us know if that works out for ya.

Hi i am new here founded in google this topic and just registered.

I am experiencing the same problem. I bought a new computer with vista business but due to some problems changed to xp. But i could not install my audio driver because it appears the message that the HDA audio driver could not be found.
I think it is the same problem. My computer is a u200 toshiba laptop, 1,66GHz and 2048MB, 128MB onboard graphic card.

First up, welcome!

The Toshiba U200 series uses what's called an ADI HD Audio chip, and thankfully Toshiba made 2 lines of that laptop: one with Vista, and one with XP. However, I think the XP version was only available in the US.

In any case, head right HERE. I've set the filters on this page to show only the XP drivers for that particular series in case you need any of the other drivers, and HERE is the specific page for the XP audio driver.

From what I remember that series doesn't use the HD chip, but rather the older AC'97 chip (if memory serves it's the ADI SoundMax 1981B).

Can you tell me exactly which R3000 notebook it is? There are so many in that series. If you take a look at the bottom of your laptop it will tell you exactly what R3000 notebook it is.

In the meantime you can take a look at THIS page. It's a list of all the R3000 series notebooks. Just pick the exact model you have, go step by step through the pages, and you will find the drivers you need for it.

Ok, after burning through MSI tech support, and basically every option i've seen online i'm deciding to post. My motherboard is the 975X platinum edition. MSI -- MICRO-STAR INT'L CO., LTD. is the MSI website. I recently did a clean installation of windows, and installed the chipset drivers. Then i tried installing the realtek audio drivers, both from the MSI website, and from the realtek website, that is to say the HD ones, latest version. So here comes the problem, when it gets to the end and then it attempts to enable the built in audio card, then it immediately bluescreens. Then when i reboot it shows as realtek HD audio, but it still shows as uninstalled. And if i don't disable it, it immediately blue screens when it tries to enable the audio. I tried the fixes mentioned here, the exe file and it did absolutely nothing. Also i'm using XP SP2. I'm on the border of buying a new card, lol.
--Thank you very very, very much.

Best suggestion I have at the moment is to do the following:

- Go into Add/Remove Programs, and uninstall any Realtek audio listings, but do not reboot. Leave that Window open, and go into Device Manager, and do the same thing there if there is anything still listed. Again, do not reboot.

- Close Device Manager, and go back to Add/Remove Programs. Be sure that the check box is marked for "Show Updates", scroll down to the listing that says "High Definition Audio Driver Package - KB888111", and uninstall it. Then reboot the machine.

- Once you reboot if it asks you to install an audio driver, do not. Cancel any install prompts. If it doesn't ask you be sure to go back into Device Manager, and check the audio listings. Be sure that there is no Realtek audio devices listed.

- Now, if you have uncompressing program, like WinRAR or 7-Zip (the latter you can get HERE), download the executable version of the latest driver (1.96), and uncompress the Realtek audio driver package to a folder (simply right-click it, and there should be an option to do so, or open WinRAR/7-Zip, open the executable with that program, and extract it somewhere). Inside that folder you will see a folder called "MSHDQFE". Open that, and choose the "Win2k_XP" listing. Dig through that folder, and it's sub folder until you come to the end. You should now see 3 files. The one you want to run is the one labeled "kb888111xpsp2.exe", and run it.

- As soon as you do this Windows might say it's found an audio device. If it does, and asks you to install drivers just cancel. At this point you can either go back into the folder with the extracted audio drivers, and run the setup file to install the drivers, or you could run the main executable. Either will do the same thing. However, there is a 3rd option. Now that the folder is extracted you could manually install the drivers. In that extracted folder is one called "WDM". This is where the drivers are extracted to, and where you'd point Windows to when looking for drivers.

According to this - Tech ARP - ED#96 : High Definition Audio Support In Windows XP SP3
The final XP SP3 release does include the KB888111 HD-Audio bus driver.

The only thing I don't like about this idea right now is that if you put SP3 in there, which has the HDA patch in there, that means you can't remove it without removing SP3. It's better to get this working before going to SP3. By sticking with SP2 you can remove that patch, and by removing that patch you essentially reset Windows' ability to see HD devices, cuz without it there is none.
