alc850 or fortissimo3 or new card?
hey
i just got new speakers z5300 now im wandering what should i use my onboard alc850 (last choice) or my hercules fortissimo III, now the problem is with my fortissimo III is that the drivers are shitty, can't play videos with vlc (sounds choppy and instead of the video i see a black screen) and can't play a video with mpc and play mp3 at the same time (2 outputs the same time), maybe i should just buy another sound card i don't wanna spend alot of money i mostly just listen to to music and watching movies, i play games as well but that's a little less important ( btw i dont record music) any suggetions?

Well you said you don't want to spend alot of money BUT you spend alot of time doing things that require sound. If I was You I would invest and get a good soundcard to go with those speakers. Tose are pretty good speakers so why wouldn't you get a good card to connect them to? For instance the AUdigy 2 Value is a great card the same as a ZS except for a few changes and they are very cheap they provide awsome sound for movies music and gaming...DO yoursefl a favor and get soundcard. Don't buy a LS, SE or SB live 24 bit...if your unsure ask guys

I don't know the spec's of the fortismo but I agree with Judas. If your really into gaming I would say get a Auidyg2 or a X-fi for the EAX abilities..other than that I wouldn't bother. Hope that helps.

actually i find the audigy and x-fi perform both worse and produce a less quality sample of audio in comparison to even a realtek onboard codec.
Forgive me if someone calls BS on me, but tiss true. The fortissimo3 however will die very quickly very soon, no x64 driver is a big issue. But the major dilemma is the fact that there will never be a x64 driver enless microsoft feels the need to make a basic one just to get vista x64 up and running or vista x32 for that matter (as i don't think xp drive will work on vista.. not sure).. You said you have the ALC850 chipset? Is that the EXACT name of it? it's not a ALC882/883 or some other form is it? If it was the High Definition ALC88x series, i'd suggest ditching your fortissimo and fireing up your onboard sound, Realtek has a super huge winner with there ALC HD Chips!

The ALC850 is available on alot of 939 mobo's. I am ordering one right now that contains the ALC850 it's a 7.1 codec I believe. I guess the rest is a matter of taste..

ALC850 is no a HD Realtek Audio Device... it's not bad.. but it's not absalutely amazing or anything.
ALC882 for most AMD and ALC883 for most intel are both HD Realtek Device, both of which are absalutely great. The ALC650 is a 7.1 channel audio device as well.
