Creative Volume Control not detecting sound card (Audigy 2 ZS)

Hey everyone. I installed the drivers on the CD for my Audigy 2 ZS card and the sound works just fine. However, whenever I try to do anything with the creative volume control besides adjust the volume (EAX console, surround mixer, speaker settings, graphic equalizer, and THX setup console all don't work) I get a message window saying "The audio device supported by this application is not detected. The application will exit." I go into the device manager and I can see the sound card on there and according to that it is working just fine.

I tried running the diagnostics and it passes the hardware detection test but fails everything else.

I have absolutely no idea what could be causing this. I'm installing the drivers onto a brand new hard drive that had just finished having windows installed on it a couple hours ago. The only thing I can think of is maybe the drivers for the onboard audio of the motherboard is interferring with it?

Anyone know how to fix this? I appreciate any and all help!!

System Specs

uninstall the creative drivers
use drivercleaner to remove all traces of the drivers
reboot
go into the device manager and see if there are any issues with the soundcard, also windows may have installed it's own default drivers… uninstall them, but make sure the soundcard shows up as "unknown device". If it doesn't appear at all, the CL drivers will not install and you'll need to reboot
