About to do a clean format of the sytem - Winxp SP1
Got an audigy Want to use audigy 2 drivers, hacked using ctcomp.exe After sifting through the copius amounts of threads, I have got: A2 Install CD hacked A2 Driver update hacked (.324) Latest software updates for Speaker Setup and Surround Mixer Can't i just intall the hacked A2 Install CD, then update to .324 using the Creative setup program then update the programs... Do i need to hack the programs too? Some say i have to go .283 > .323 > .324? Some say go .283 > .323 and software updates > .324 and softare updates; I do not see how software updates coincide with driver updates? Lastly, can't I copy the hacked .324 drivers into the driver directory of the hacked install CD and use the install CD, then software updates and that's it? regards

This post has not been replied to in the last three months. So I am going to, I have installed all the versions one by one, and also installed the .283 and then jump straight to .324 and it has worked both the times. There is no difference in the quality of sound. The choice is entirely yours. Try both of the methods and check out the sound quality and opt for the one that most suits you. Good luck

You are most welcome. I suppose you do know how to install the hacked version of Audigy 2 over Audigy 1 ? it is a bit tricky and could be frustrating as myself went through, but it can be done. Without insulting your intelligence, I would like to suggest one important thing, that is, after you download the Audigy 2 CD you have to install the 'ctcom' file and direct it to setup.exe inside SB-install folder which you might want to create before extracting the Win Rar file that comes as Audigy CD 2. Should you encounter any problems just e-mail me and I shall be glad to offer my assistance.(purush@rogers.com)

There is no need for a clean install of the OS, just because you want to do a simple upgrade of the sound card drivers. In any case Windows XP automatically detects your Audigy 1 card and will install version .283. All you need to do is update this driver version to .322 and on to .324. There are two choices, 1. Install just the updated drivers only to get the enhanced sound effects of Audigy 2 in Audigy 1. 2. Install the full Audigy 2 CD. There is not much difference between the two methods, except for a few additional features like EAX control - Surround mixer - and tweaking the speaker caliberations etc, etc. I have two computers and on the first one I have just installed the drivers and it sounds just great without the extra features. I have installed Rich FX sound along with Audigy 2 drivers, which takes care of 3D sound while playing MP3's. And on the second computer I have installed the entire Audigy 2 CD - the hacked version. The problem with installing the entire CD is as I have earlier mentioned a bit tricky. Nevertheless, with the help of 'ctcomp' each of the setup.exe will have to be patched in order to get the darn thing working. If you are like me who cannot sit by and seek the easy way but like a challenge then I would suggest to get the entire CD installed. You can do this without formatting or reinstalling the XP. You will not be meddling with the general functionality of the OS by upgrading your sound card drivers. Good luck.
