Have you tried uninstalling the update through the Add/Remove Programs Panel?

In one of my early attempts with a Philips card I saw a similiar problem. The fix I found was to turn off the advanced power management in the BIOS. This seemed to solve the problem. However if the card is new I usggest returning it and getting a Fortissimo III. Hercules has much better support than Philips.
