Urgent Assistance Required

Hello Everybody..
this is my first post so I hope nobody will ge extremely pissed if I'm posting under the wrong thread or any other mistake of the sort..

I just bought an X-Fi XtremeMusic.. and thats where the excitment stops.. its all been downhill from there .. i stuck it into the PCI slot, installed the drivers from the CD.. got a taste of things to come and restarted my PC.. and that was it.. the drivers couldnt identify the card anymore.. said i have no supported creative products on my system.. while ´windows insists i have a new multimedia audio controller and could i please supply the drivers?.. i have restarted my computer because of this cat-and-mouse game about 30 times in the last 24 hours and am frankly beginning to get pissed off .. so i would seriously appreciate any help..

P.S. I'm running Windows XP SP2 and have disabled my on-board soundcard.. I got all kinds of error messages.. ranging from wrong driver to device resource overlapping..

I cant believe this crap!!.. My Mobo just froze and i almost s&$t my pants thinking i musta blown something.. i had to reset everything to default and follow step by step safe mode setup resetting (months of tweaking down the drain).. and i restarted windows in safe mode.. and voila! a miracle.. windows xp in safe mode identified my card as a sb x-fi and loaded the driver and when i restarted in normal mode it was working!.. and now being an idiot i though why not install the newest drivers from creative so i can play around with all the goodies my card can offer.. as u can already deduce from my disgusted ranting.. i'm back to square one.. the drivers are there.. windows is telling me i have a new multimedia controller.. and refusing to identify the driver with the freaking card.. this just sucks.. i'm seriously considering returning the card along with the gigaworks 750 speakers i just bought.. no point in having the speakers if i'm gonna go back to my stupid old onboard sound which only supports 5.1 anyway.. if anybody can help.. i'm desperate..

Did you do a thorough uninstall and cleanup of your onboard sound drivers before disabling it or installing the x-fi card? You want to use dhdcpro in safe mode to clean both sets of drivers and then manually search the registry and your system directory for leftovers. You want no remnants of any soundcard drivers left on your system before installing the cl drivers.

well mrbusa.. like i said i'm new here.. and new to all this crap.. i belong to that happy senile old generation when one used to buy a card, stick it in the slot, install the driver and enjoy his money's worth.. i'll try ur advice as best as i can though.. thanks
btw.. i did remove all the old drivers.. but i'll do it again just to make sure

I do not want to write a word for word post on uninstalling and installing device drivers because there are a million threads on the subject and I suck at typing.
What I will say, and it goes for most device drivers, is, using just the uninstaller of a specific driver can sometimes be sufficient for upgrading certain drivers, not changing devices all together. When a driver is installed into windows root there is a backup kept for detection of that hardware. It is hard to find everything manually, thats why there are programs written for the job. There are more registry keys related to a driver install than I can count.
Good luck

Tried dhdcpro and all i got for my effort was that i had to reinstall all my MOBO's drivers agian.. but the creative piece of crap is still not working.. not only that.. its own installation CD refuses to identify it as a product and quits.. while windows insists that i should provide a driver for my multimedia audio controller.. this just sucks

What did you clean with dhdcpro?
It is not the cards fault that there are driver conflicts.
Have you ran a registry cleaner like regseeker and performed a auto scan and deleted anything related to your onboard sound drivers and cl drivers? Also do a manual scan with the keywords, creative, x-fi, xfi, creative x-fi, realtek, ac97, etc.
How did you disable your onboard sound? In the mobo bios or in the xp device manager?
What drivers are you installing from the nforce chipset driver pack? Your board has realtek ac97 audio and not nvidia audio right?

Can yo unot install them manually? I mean when windos says you have a new audio controller and asks for the drivers can you not browse to the CD and install them this way?
