which driver for audigy?

I've just bought some new z-640 5.1 speakers and am unhappy with creatives handling of the rear channels.... I have installed the .324's right now (thank you FAQ from RIV@VNX!) and when I test 5.1 speaker set up the volume is just as loud in rear speakers individually as front speakers individually. Yet when I fire up MOHAA or Unreal 2, there is literally no sound that comes out of the rear speakers. I unplugged the front speakers and turned up the volume and sound does eventually come from the rear but man, its sooooo weak! I've ran both advanced and basic speaker calibration and sound from the rear is, well, OK in that. Still not as strong as I'd like but OK. So I'm wondering, how can I fix it??

Should I go back and try the latest official audigy drivers 253? or should I give the kx project a go? Just wanting the best 5.1 gaming and multi-media sound as possible with these great speakers and what I'm quite sure should be a great soundcard. Never really had any problems before with 253 and 4 speaker set up... rear was strong. What happened?? help!!!

Tried tweaking CMSS in EAX Console?

haven't even touched the EAX console....

edit - oh wow just opened the console to see that diagram. cmss was disabled. gonna play with it a bit now.... and looking back, there may have been a few install options with that too from the audigy 2 necro CD that I may have skipped over.... hmmm. Tell me, IYO, what apps do I need to install from that CD to game with and watch an ocasional DVD or VCD with. I don't want the player as I use powerDVD. And I would like to have a little as possible installed. Right now I just have speaker calibration, speaker setting, audio HQ, EAX console and surround mix installed. I need anything else to improve performance?

Sounds like to me you have all the base covered... try a few DVD's to see how they sound.

Riv you hit the nail on the head! did NOT have cmss on at all. Man talk about night and day difference WOW!! Ought to try it yourself. Go a day or so with CMSS off then turn it on LOL whole new sound card!! Until now, I had yet to experience 5.1 surround sound. I came up from a 4 speaker setup and couldn't figure out why I had just wasted $80 on these z640's..... well shine on you crazy diamond!! Now I get it... wifes gonna wake up thinking we're at war over here with MOHAA now!!!! yikes!!
