help running audio through PC

so I have a PC with decent speakers and a subwoofer. They aren't great but they're okay. I hooked up my xbox360 to the same monitor as my PC. All is well save for the fact that i have to use the monitor speakers for my xbox. They sound bad and...ew.

So the question is, how do I run the audio through my PC? I tried going through the mic port with little success. Then I realized that the mic port is only mono anyway so theres really no point. I have a line-in port but I can't figure out how to use it. I also have an SPDIF in and out port. At first I thought they were normal RCA connections in which case it would be easy, but they're digital in and out ports so that wont work I think.

Anyway I have a DFI Infinity NF4 SLI board if thats any help. All I wanna do is have the audio run through to the same speakers. I don't want to have to tinker with stuff every time I switch to my xbox if thats at all possible. Thanks!

Scytale is on a distinguished road

<~JUDAS

Open up your sound properties and make sure your primary sound output and input are set to the right device (if you've only got one.. it should be only one available)

next, select the audio volumes or advanced button for the recording.

This should pop up a window with multiple sliders, in which case, you'll want to make sure your under recording by hitting file, properties, then making sure you've selected the right sound device and recording (not playback)... then check through the check boxes to see if you have a LINE IN option to check... make sure it's checked.. hit ok..

now the window should refresh and now you have to look through and turn up the LINE IN volume all the way up, and then make sure it's SELECTED (check near the bottom)..

i'd also suggest checking to see if there is perhaps advanced option, but clicking file then advanced options, now it'll refresh and perhaps, possibly an option for ADVANCED may pop up under line in, check it to see what options it gives you, (something like, turn line IN on and disable mic IN the case of the line and and mic sharing the same port on the motherboard)

Now things should work perfectly for you,
