3 soundcards

Hi,

I've got 2 sblive values and just bought a A2ZS - I want to connect them all up - i'm not sure I understand how to connect them to the AUD_EXT - as i'm not sure what is a digital in and what is not (What are the GP0, GP1?) - SBlive to SBlive was easy - will I have to use the CD_SPDIF?

Thanks,

Will

Connect all 3 together? What for? Didn't know that it was even possible.

I know you can use 2 sound cards. but why do you want to use 2 SBlives and then a Audigy with them.

Well, i used one card for inputs and one for outputs before - allowed me to use more dsp effcts along the way - as 1 card limits the effects by registers - the new setup means i could have an extra two stereo ins - or i could simply use the cards as separate DSP signal processors - sending and receving - I think i've managed to work out how to use an old ide cable and strip and twist wires together to get the pins communicating correctly - just allows more flexibility basically.

At that rate aren't you better getting some beefier hardware that's meant specifically for the purpose of what you're doing?

Yea I guess so - MAudio etc.. - but I'm very used to KX drivers DSP - (I forget this particular thread isn't KX related..) and besides if it's not broken - don't fix it.. Friends have shown me MSP audio which is similar to KX DSP - but it seems much the same really - i don't need hundreds of ins - i'll go to a studio for that, but this setup I like - plus i use soundfonts a lot (for which I get some stick) It is quite something what you can do with these soundblasters + KX.

if you're using the Audigy as the master, connect one Live! to the CD_SPDIF input, and another to one of the SPDIF inputs (SPDIFI0, SPDIFI1, SPDIFI2) on the AUD_EXT header

I said Audigy, I meant Audigy2 ZS on which i've connected 25+35 as per Samir, output SPDIF's are working to the other two cards - the CD_SPDIF in is working - but not the SPDIF IN on the AD_EXT (I've been getting AD_EXT mixed with AUD_EXT... )

There is an annoying SPDIF KX icon flashing up constantly which I presume is something to do with this setup - also there is LiveBay0 in the about box. Anything obvious i'm doing wrong? (except maybe wasting my time when i could get an MAudio 4in 4 out card with 0 latency )

By the way, becuase of lack of cables i'm sharing a ground between the SPDIF IN and OUT on one of the cards - the connection from A2ZS -> Live! is okay with that but not the Live! -> A2ZS

And thanks a lot for the replies much appreciated.

sharing of the ground shouldn't matter, as all ground pins on each card are interconnected anyway

but go to the kX mixer, select the card you're using as the master, right click the mixer, select "settings" and click "SPDIF/I2S Status"

check to see if you're seeing all the SPDIF inputs in use

Thanks for the info - I found that the SPDIF IN on the AD_EXT wasn't functioning properly - the status sreen had it flickering on and off - so I put the cards in series instead. All working as well as it can.

SBs +Cusbase+ Kx are decent enough for some basic home recording.

Thanks for your help.
