Sound Card PCIe 1x Question

Do they exist? I have read things about them coming out, does one exist yet? I would like to get one as I don't have room in the old PCI area. Thoughts ideas links appreciated.

Thanks!

LOL! First they say they won't be making a PCIE card, now they say they are? Stupid soabs.

From what I've heard about the Asus card it's definatly one to watch. The 2 things that stood out about that card was that it has 2 DSP processors (one is can be primarly used for converting DRM music into something else.. like MP3... legally), and that the card is covered by an EMI issolation heatsink.

BTW, for those interested, HERE and HERE are shots of the PCI version of the card... naked.

It would be nice to see a new name in the game. Creative's drivers have gotten so crummy that they will have to kick there shit into gear.

anyways, that card reminds me of the auzentech X-meridian card without its heatsink..... it looks like it would pair nicely with an acs3 EVGA card lol

I wonder if these sound cards will actually make use of the extra bandwidth or if its just a sign that PCI is finally going the way of ISA and the VESA bus.

I think it's the second option. I doubt that any sound card could need more than 133 MB/s (or at least nearly that much).

using the PCIe bus would allow for less latency (good for musicians) and probably more throughput for DSP processing, possibly even real-time convolution effects - think PhysX, but for sound

I found this comment on PCIe sound:
Quote:
As far as PCI Express (PCIe) is concerned, which is the next bus, what we found is that the performance of PCIe is truly bad for audio.
http://www.guru3d.com/newsitem.php?id=3005

But it is two years old and from Creative, so it may be far from thuth now .
