Pissed Going Loopy!

CAn anyone tell me how to stop win98se reinstalling my wdm driver. I installed them to see if they would get rid of the pops and squeaks in my audio (It got worse). I've tried practically everything. Having just flashed my bios I've managed to disable the ACPI in my bios. which I think may be the problem. Now I want to do a clean install of the old Vxd setup but I can't get rid of the WDM driver. I've tried to clean the registry with regvac, system mechanic and regclean, I've deleted all files that I know relate to the wdm from /system and /inf folders and yet the bastard keeps coming back! I'm going loopy, help needed urgently...

I asked because I heard that some older via southbridges don't work well w/ creative cards at all- especially live 5.1's. I went to Via's websight one time and they had a special download just for certain older via chipsets. I have a via 686b and it was on the list. It never helped me much, but if you can find it it is worth a try. I think it was a registry patch.

Maybe someone else has some more suggestions.

When you start switching back and fourth between WDM drivers and VXD drivers you are just asking for trouble.

I recommend you just do a format and reinstall windows. You can also try the Via Latency patch. Which you can download from this page.
