Onboard sound question
I have an onboard sound card with the mainboard, disabled through the BIOS. I also have a pci SB XFi that I use.
Is it possible to disabled the sound card without removing it so that I test the onboard sound?

Using XP.

you should be able to disabled the X-Fi from the Device Manager in the System Control Panel

You can also just leave it enabled to test the onboard sound.

I leave my onboard enabled, with my gaming headset plugged into it, and my quality headphones plugged into my Audigy, so I just have to switch the sound device in Windows, rather than plugging/unplugging all the time.

that will definately work aswell, but can become a bit of a headache at times with multiple soundcards, i'm using 3 atm (even with onboard disabled) so i sometimes choose the wrong card by mistake (plus each of my kX cards has 4-5 different outputs to select, all in all the list is about 10 "Devices" long)

Well I tried it and it works just great.
Unfortunately, to my ears, the difference between the on board HDA solution and my X-Fi fatal1ty is huge. Difference between FM radio and CD Audio. Plus no place to boost bass unless I tweak the EQ.
Still, it works fine.

Only if someone would finaly release a better sound card than Creative's flagship already. Without using 30% of the CPU that is.
