Uninstalling the Audigy 2 Questions?
I have an Audigy 2 SB0240 sound card in the pc. I want to perform a fresh re-install of the original creative disc software & drivers that came with the card.
I need to know in exactly in what order in the Control Panel\ add\remove list should I start uninstalling the below that are installed at present: #1. Creative audio console 0.90mb #2. Creative DVD Audio Plugin for Audigy Series 0.10mb #3. Creative Jukebox Driver 4.09mb #4. Creative Media Source 3.04mb #5. Creative NOMAD II Driver 190.00mb I do have the original Sound Blaster Audigy 2 installation and Applications CD. I also do have the program Driver Cleaner Pro 1.5 that has a selection tab for removing I assume any creative remnants in the pc or registry after rebooting in safe mode like I do when uninstalling video card drivers. I read the Creative uninstall Faq guide and in the event I cannot remove all the above listed items thru the normal add\remove route the procedure for removing them manually from my pc would not work when you see step 2\line 8 under Uninstalling Sound Drivers. When I hit Start\Run\Browse on this pc nothing comes up for broswing but a screen saying not found. At present the Audigy device is not even loaded in the pc and is not shown in Device manager. Also does it have to be loaded in device manger in order to uninstall all the Creative associated software & drivers? Regards & Thanks for any replys

As far as uninstalling from add/remove, I would uninstall the software first, then the drivers. The exact order does not matter, so do 1, 2, 4, 3, 5.
As far as step 2 line 8 is concerned, that is actually to install the drivers from the CD (the uninstall completes at line 4). I assume that you did do step 6 (insert CD)?. Instead of using the run command to find the file, use Windows Explorer, after inserting the installation CD and cancelling autorun (steps 6 and 7), to look at the files on your CD, navigate to the Audio/drivers folder, see if the file they mention is there. If so double click on it. to run it. I don't use driver cleaner. I've had no problems uninstalling/reinstalling Creative drivers and apps. But if you do want to use it you should do so after line 4 of step 2, since that is when the uninstall is completed. Last edited by JRosenfeld; Aug 11, 2007 at 02:44 AM. |

Thanks for your reply !
I was able to uninstall the software & drivers associated with the Audigy 2 card but unfortunately this Audigy 2 was installed in this pc over an existing original SB card. The original SB contents cannot be uninstalled without locating all the data & remnants & removing its contents manually. I want to make sure I get ALL files & data pertaining to the original SB Creative card and get them deleted. The uninstaller will not work to remove these files from the original SB card. When I removed the Audigy 2 contents it must have screwed up the uninstall capabilities to remove the original SB card. The contents are still in C:\program files, msconfig startup list, msconfig services, local services, & several locations in the registry. Once I get rid of all this stuff then I plan on reinserting the Audigy 2 card back in the pc in the lower pci slot versus the slot right below the AGP video card and running the Creative installation cd for a fresh install. Regards
