I got mine yesterday for $$217.54 USD including shipped next day air half price from these guys in Canada. NCIX.comThey only take Paypal from the USA cause they are Canadian.
Well I used to have an X-FI Extreme Music but I got all the freezes and snap crackles and pops. I exchanged it for an X-FI Extreme Gamer. Still had the same issues. I sold that card and went with onboard shit audio for the last 5 months because my Asus A8R-MVP didn't have a 5.1 driver till June. I was going to buy the Meridian but I heard about this wonderful Prelude card comming out. So I waited and waited and bought it the second it came out. Last night it ran great. Today I am getting lockups. Freezes and such. No popping or anything but alot of the same problems I had with the X-FI. I should have known since this card is based on the X-FI chipset, but I thought that since Auzentech was building it, and they are amazing, they would fix up the X-FI problems. Now I turned off the crystelizer and all the bells and whistles and no crashes in the last half hour. I am not saying this card is shitty. I just think I need to fine tune it. Fori nstance in the Entertainment mode it says I only have 2.1 speakers. In the game mode it recognizes I have 5.1. The good thing here is it comes with 2 control panels. The flashy but crappy Creative one and the Fast sleek and easy Azun one. I found the Auzun one works much better and to stay away from the Creative. Creative sucks. The only reason I bought this card is because they have a hold on EAX. Right now I am defragging while typing this, no snaps or anything. I am in game mode. Entertainment mode was the mode that always crashed now that I think of it. I reset my bios to default setting to be sure I wasn't overclocking anything that might screw up my machine.

Well after alittle tinkering I have had no problems. Like crystal clear sound. I have a pair of Shure in ear phones and I didn't hear a single crackle.
Quick fix for anyone who may have speaker issues. You have to open The prelude control panel in gaming mode, then use Microsoft speaker tester thing in like 5.1, If you don't the card will think youm have a 2.1 system. Repeat the same step in all 3 modes. Not a single lock up or crash at all. This card rocks.

Sorry for the double post, but I got mine today and just installed it. Definitely an improvement from my old X-Fi Platinum that died and from my onboard Realtek ALC885. With my old X-Fi, I'd have to turn up the bass and treble balance up to 100%... but if I do that with the X-Fi Prelude, it distorts the sound (I really need new headphones, these are pretty beat up now and they just don't quite cut it). Drivers in Vista x64 work almost flawlessly, except for the fact that my mouse likes not responding at startup now (?!), I guess I'll have to email Auzentech about that.
Edit: After a few hours of burn-in, the distortion with high bass/treble balance has gone away. The bass is much fuller than in my old X-Fi Platinum and Realtek onboard audio. The drivers aren't as bloated as the regular X-Fi ones. It doesn't install that damn annoying product registration thing, and it doesn't load random utilities at startup. There's only two background tasks the drivers use, CTXFIHLP.exe and CTXFISPI.exe. CTXFISPI.exe seems to use a lot of memory (42 MB), however. If you disable CTXFISPI.exe (or even attempt to end the process, though that won't really work), the neither the Auzentech Audio Console nor the fancy X-Fi audio console will work. CTXFIHLP.exe uses only a tad over a megabyte of RAM. There 3 bugs that I'm encountering in the drivers, but they aren't that annoying, I can live with them until they're fixed. Think I may have some problems with my card. It'd be great to get some advice and see whether anyone else is experiencing my 'glitches'. On the plus side - I can set up the card to sound great. I'm only using it for 2.1, but there is a clear difference on upgrading from my old Audigy 1. Very smooth clear sound - well defined tight bass and loads of detail that means I'll be ripping to lossless formats from now on.
However.... Whilst the crystalizer adds the expected extra dynamic range and 'punch' it takes a lot of setting up to avoid popping on bass notes. With the volumes (wave, creative volume control, winamp) set to max I get a pop/crack on every loud bass note/drum hit. To get rid of this I need to use the EQ panel to reduce all freq by around 8dB. If I leave the EQ at 0dB and use the equaliser to raise any of the lower frequencies the popping is huge. Again - all this disappears if I turn the crystalizer off. Could it be that something on my card is defective? Sounds like the op-amps are overloading...but if I reduce the signal to them using EQ, then I'm 'losing' the benefits of all the amazing S/N specs of the card aren't I? Is there anyone with a card out there (mine was from overclockers here in the UK) who could check for this 'fault' with Vols all to max and the Crystalizer thingy on. cheers...... |

What percentage do you have Crystallizer set at? Also what is the quality of the files you're playing? Last but not least what mode are you using? Did you also make sure that all the previous drivers were 100% removed?

I'm in entertainment mode as I don't have any surround stuff. The output is to a Cambridge Audio 640A Hi-Fi Amp / B&W601 speakers. The probs happen when the crystalizer is set to any value (other that off) to some extent and they scale to be even worse of it's raised past 50%. I know its new hardware, so there might be driver probs, but I want to rule out any hardware dodgyness before I RMA. I suspect that something on the card isn't calibrated properly or there's an op-amp problem. Oh - the source material doesn't seem to matter. I've tried 128k, 320k, lossless formats, audio CDs etc. Stuff that is encoded at lower volumes isn't a problem, but that fits in with the general 'overloaded' symptoms great to be at the cutting edge eh (why do I feel like a beta tester) |

If you ask Auzen for the DD live drivers they will send the RC2 to you if you ask them nicely. It has drivers for muiti OSes in the setup.

Thinking about picking one of these up for a HD-DVD/Blu-ray media center. I don't suppose anyone have a Blu-ray/HD-DVD player in their systems? If so how well does it handle decoding the HD DTS/DD ?

I have owned the Prelude since day 1. I was actually one of the first guys to "officially" review the card also. I have never had any troubles with it. Almost everybody I have ever talked to that moved from a Creative X-fi to the Prelude says there is a very noticeable increase in sound quality. You guys that moved, how do you find the sound as compared to your Creative X-fi? Maybe a POLL is needed. Thx guys.

Never owned an X-Fi or any soundcard for that matter. I've been using SPDIF since nForce 1 boards lol. But it is a definite improvement.
