Yet another X-Fi - Vista Victim
Alright guys,
I've spent the last 5 days researching, reading, and trying things to get my X-Fi install on Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I'm just getting incredibly frustrated now, I'm sick of seeing the "I can't detect a sound card" pop up right before the install. I've downloaded both official and beta release drivers from Creative, but now I'm thinking about pulling my SiG out and murdering either the Vista box or the X-Fi card. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Brake |

That happened to me with my X-Fi Platinum. Manually installing the drivers didn't work. And then I put it in my old XP computer and I got the error there, too... my card was dead. You might want to try a manual driver install (search for that on Creative's forums) and/or putting it in another computer with XP installed on it.

Its the double whammy of x64 Vista and 4GB of RAM
I had the same problem, I dumped my Xfi Xtreme gamer and got a Auzen Prelude

So basically my options are:
1) Get a new sound card, and retire my X-Fi Elite 2) Go back to WinXP 3) Continue to use Vista without sound Thats it? There is no better option?

Or....
Wait for Creative or Microsoft to address the issue and come out with an updated driver or a hotfix....It has yet to be determined what actually is causing this problem, but it is certainly leaning more toward an error in Creatives drivers more than Windows, as the problem is prevelant in WinXp based systems with 4GB of ram as well. |

But hang on a minute I do have Vista 64 bit Ultimate and 4Gig of RAM and also the X-Fi Fatal1ty and I have no problems installing my drivers manually using the drivers freely available off the creative site.

Its completely random in when it decides to crap out....something to do with how strict the Audio API's are on Vista now. Usually a driver reinstall fixes it.

I have Home Premium 64bit, 4Gig RAM & the X-Fi Extreme Audio & have had no problem in either XP or Vista. I do have 2Gig ReadyBoost if that makes a diff. (it shouldn't but with either company who knows)
