Audigy2 ZS problem

So I have had my PC for a few years and it has always run great. Well recently my sound blaster has been acting up. I go into the Creative Volume Control to change between 5.1 and headphones, depending on what I am doing and that has always worked fine. Recently when I go into the control panel to change my speaker config all that is there is a blank dropdown box? Everything is up to date, drivers etc. I have tried rebooting and still same thing. It is stuck on 5.1 atm, sounds great but I need to use my headphones. Also I tried changing from the windows sound control panel and nothing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had this problem with my Audigy 2 ZS. Was all driver related in the end. Unfortunately all I could do to correct the problem was a complete uninstall and reinstall of creative drivers.

My problems started by switching the output from Headphones to 2.1 all the time and it would not stay put. Then it would not let me change.

Is there a particular way to install them? Uninstall old creative ones, run drivercleaner, install Kx drivers and good to go? Just curious because creative had so many incremental updates and patches.
